CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson field hockey team was feeling good at the half on Saturday afternoon tied at 1-1 with the visiting Bryn Mawr College Owls. However, the visitors used a three goal third quarter to get past the Red and White 4-1 at the Biddle Field Complex in Centennial Conference play.
There was not too much action early as the two sides spent the opening ten minutes trying to find their footing on a very wet turf as the rain poured down. The first attempt of the game would find the back of the cage as Annick van Blerkom played in a corner to Eva Yacura who fired a shot beyond the reach of DC keeper
Saige Stevens for the 1-0 lead. The Owls would have two more chances in the period with Novy Goetgeluk and Yacura being turned aside by Stevens to shift the game to the second.
Bryn Mawr kept up the pressure early in the second as Thekla Jubinville and Paige Schaefer forcing stops out of the keeper inside the opening three minutes. The Devils made their first shot of the day count when
Abby Marthins got a return feed fromÂ
Morgan Yandow-Harding off a corner for a blast that beat Maggie Titus for the equalizer with 19 minutes off the clock. A minute later DC had two opportunities to grab the lead, but Yandow-Harding had a shot blocked and
Katie Marthins was stopped by Titus to keep things locked up at the break.Â
In the third period the Red and White were held without a shot, while the Owls recorded seven attempts and got tallies from Kate Ervin, Maggie Barilla, and Hazel Miller to seize control at 4-1 heading to the fourth.
Both teams had some opportunities at the start of the final quarter as Yacura was stopped by Stevens, before
Sammi Moonay was denied by Titus. Bryn Mawr did not allow the Devils another look at goal as they made Stevens make one more stop to hold the final at 4-1.
