LANCASTER, Pa. - The Dickinson men's soccer team got a second-half goal from
Chaz Smith, but it was not enough as the host (RV) Franklin & Marshall College tallied twice in the opening period to edge out the Red and White by a final of 2-1 on Saturday night in Centennial Conference action at Tylus Field.
The home side applied the early pressure recording three shots inside the opening 11 minutes with Connor Anderko, Oscar Horwitz, and Philip Monos all missing the goal guarded by
Andrew Kempe. However, three minutes later the Diplomats did get on the board with Horwitz finishing off a feed from Monos. F&M kept up the attack as Koa Kaliebe was stopped by Kempe at the 25:20 mark, before 33-seconds later Jordan Smuels made it 2-0. After that the Dickinson offense woke up as
Ethan Jarden missed the mark during the 27th minute, prior to forcing a save out of Sam Farrell seven minutes later. With five minutes remaining in the half
Cole Jennings had a go at goal, but it was blocked down by the F&M defense to send the match to the break.Â
The rest seemed to do the hosts a lot of good with them recording the opening three shots of the period off the boots of Kaliebe and Monos (2) with Kempe being called upon twice to keep things at just 2-0 still with a half-hour to go. The Diplomats defense continued to be strong as they did not allow Dickinson a shot until the 73:36 mark when
Tyson Burling had a go off a
Geoffrey Ogenrwot corner.
Mack Moore got an opportunity off a loose ball in the box, but Farrell was their for the save. The Devils kept trying to find a lifeline with Burling and Jarden both forcing stops out of Farrell in the 77th and 81st respectively. Then, with 84:41 DC found the goal they were looking for as
Johnny Diederich played a pass to
Saul Iwowo who found Smith for the finish. The Devils would get one last shot in the 87th, but the offering from
Galil Cohen was snuffed out by the defense.
