CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's volleyball earned a pivotal 3-0 Centennial Conference win over the visiting Ursinus College in the first match, but dropped the non-conference backend of the tri-match 1-3 to Catholic University at the Kline Center on Saturday.
Match One - Red Devils 3, Bears 0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-23)
It was the visitors who had the fast start with points from Rachel Bernard and Caroline Sherman giving the Bears a 6-3. Dickinson responded with kills from
Sophia Denayer,
Emma Lange, and
Ann Marie Patterson helping the Red and White to go ahead 9-8. Three straight but UC gave them the edge 11-9, but Denayer and Lange mounted a 5-1 push to reclaim a 14-12 lead. The two sides traded the next dozen points to leave it 20-18, before
Amelia Kim,
Avery Lewis,
Emma Popham, and Lange scored five of the ensuing eight to take the first 25-21.
The second saw the Devils get out to the quick lead with
Alexa Barowski,
Camille Dofiles, and Popham all recording points for the 5-2 lead. Katie Cressman, Noelle Smits, and Sherman turned the momentum around with an 8-2 run making it 10-7. Ursinus maintained their three-point cushion at 13-10 on an ace by Smits. Dickinson would close to within one 18-17 when Kim notched an ace, but then three DC errors opened up 21-17 advantage. However, the Devils had the answer as Denayer and Popham put down kills, while
Cassidy Davis and Patterson added three aces during an 8-2 set-ending march for the 25-23 win.
Barowski, Denayer, and Dofiles had DC in front 5-1, but then a Cressman kill and two errors trimmed the gap to 6-4. The runs continued with the Red and White scoring four of the next six thanks to Kim, Lange, and Popham to make it 10-6. However, Ursinus ripped off six straight to seize a 12-10 edge. Once again the Devils put together a response as
Jordan Schucker, Barowski, Davis, Kim, and Lange all totaled points to bring Dickinson to front at 18-16. The Bears did not go away with Erin Dychdala, Reena Robinson, Cressman, and Smits made it 20-18 visitors, but two Lewis aces along with kills from Kim and Lange closed out a 6-2 DC run to put score at 24-21. After UC picked up two in a row Lange pounded down the match-ending kill (25-23).

Match Two - Cardinals 3, Red Devils 1 (25-11, 25-17, 19-25, 25-18)
Catholic took an early 7-3 with Devils points coming from Kim, Lange, and Popham. The Cardinals continued to fly away using another 7-3 run to extend the opening to 14-6. A kill and block by Barowski held the margin at eight 17-9. However, the visitors just kept up the attack as Brittany Connatser, Erin Faughnan, Claire Harris, Gaby Hernandez-Ferraiuoli, Grace Guerin, and Halie Murphy all recorded kills during an 8-2 charge to take the first 25-11.
Catholic began the second set up 7-3 again, before back-to-back Denayer kills closed within 8-6. The Cardinals notched kills from Connatser, Faughnan, Murphy to continue to hold the Devils at bay 16-11, as Kim and Popham put down kills for the home side during that time. After the two sides traded the next six points the visitors tallied four straight to bump the lead out to 23-14. Barowski, Denayer, Lange, and Popham tried to keep the home team afloat at 24-17, but Guerin scored the final point of the set (25-17).
Dickinson started the third strong with kills by Denayer, Kim, and Popham making it 6-3. Five of the next seven went the way of the visiting side, before Barowksi, Denayer, Kim, Lange, and Popham gave DC a 16-12 edge. The teams split the next six points, prior to Connatser and Murphy bringing Catholic to within one 19-18. Dickinson took control the rest of the game going on a 6-1 charge with kills coming from Barowski and Lange to close things out 25-19.
The fourth began with Catholic up 9-4 despite three visiting errors and a Popham kill. Dickinson came back with aces from Kim and Lange, coupled by a Kim score to cut the deficit down to 10-8. However, the Cardinals would double-up the Red and White at 16-8 thanks to a 6-0 run. An error by Hernandez-Ferraiuoli stopped the push at 16-9, before the two sides exchanged the following ten points with a kill from Kim making it 20-14. After a 3-0 visiting stretch, the Devils came back with four straight with points by Denayer, Lange, and Schucker trimming it to 23-18. The Cardinals would score on the next two points to wrap-up the match 25-18.
