CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson field hockey team recorded just three shots on the day, but every single one of them find the back of the cage to rally back from a 2-1 deficit to down the visiting Swarthmore College Garnet 3-2 in Centennial Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Biddle Field Complex.
Prior to the first hit the Red and White honored their lone senior goalkeeper
Saige Stevens.
Stevens was busy right off the start as she turned away Deborah Kim less than a minute in, before watching an offering from Amelia Landry go wide a minute later. However, at the 3:12 mark the Garnet found the breakthrough when Martina Kampel spun around a defender and put a shot into the top corner. Swathmore tried for a 2-0 lead 30-seconds later, but Stevens told her no. That save led to the Devils getting their first chance in the seventh minute that
Sammi Moonay fired beyond the reach of Cassandra Conklin. However, the Garnet reclaimed the lead five minutes after that when Kampel scored on a penalty stroke given for a foul in the attacking area. Swat had three more shots in the period forcing Stevens into two more saves to hold the margin at 2-1 going to the second.
The second period was played completely in the midfield as their was one chance in the frame which the Devils cashed in.
Abby Marthins penalty corner came to
Morgan Yandow-Harding who had her shot deflected into the goal by
Katie Marthins to have things locked up heading to the half.
In the third the Garnet had the only four shots of the quarter with Stevens making two saves and
Jackie Smith sweeping one off the line to keep things tied with 15 minutes to play.
Just over a minute into the fourth Stevens was tasked with making a stop on Cho. That would lead to the Devils taking the lead six minutes later when
Becca Woods was given a penalty stroke which she slipped past the keeper on the left side for the 3-2 edge. Stevens finished off her memorable Senior Day by stopping Brooke Findlay two more times to see out the win.
