CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson field hockey had five different players find the back of the cage on Wednesday afternoon as the Red and White wrapped up their non-conference slate with a 5-3 win over the University of Mary Washington at the Biddle Field Complex.
Both teams tested the keepers inside the opening six minutes as
Abby Marthins was stopped by Bailey McNabb, before Ellie Helbling was told "no" by
Saige Stevens. Then, with 6:33 gone in the first the Eagles took a 1-0 lead through Emma Bernard when she tipped home an offering from Caroline Porter. Dickinson had shots by
Sammi Moonay,
Anna Snyder, and Marthins miss the target, before
Ella Krenzer pushed a loose ball beyond the reach of McNabb to knot the score. The Devils would grab a 2-1 edge just before the end of the quarter when
Becca Woods fired a penalty stroke to the right of the goalie.Â
The second period belonged to the Eagles as they outshot the Devils 8-1, but three Stevens saves and a last-ditch effort by
Jackie Smith to sweep the ball off the line to keep it at 2-1 going to the third.
Bernard tried to bring the Eagles level just 46-ticks into the second half, however once again Stevens was up to the task. It would be DC who would add two more tallies over the next three minutes as Moonay wound-up and ripped one past McNabb, before Marthins carried the ball down the left side and rifled a shot into the cage making it 4-1. Stevens would deny Bernard once more, prior to being replace by
Olivia Renault. However, the Eagles immediately slipped one past the new goalie when Katie Craddock tapped in a pass by Bernard trimming it to 4-2 after three.
The Eagles took five minutes into the fourth to cut the deficit down to 4-3 as a foul inside the attack area against the Red and White led to Sydney Keating sending a penalty stroke past Renault. That brought Stevens back between the pipes for the Devils and flipped the momentum back in DC's favor as
Sophia Pereira, Marthins, and Moonay recording the next three shots, unfortunately none of the reached the goal. Stevens kept the Dickinson lead at 4-3 when she stopped Helbling in the 55th, before
Malena Malka Goldman put away her own rebound off a save by McNabb for the 5-3 final.
