CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's soccer team defended admirably most of the night, but the visiting third-ranked Johns Hopkins University took advantage of two corners and two second-half penalty kicks to spoil the regular season home finale for the Red and White 4-0 on Wednesday evening.
The Red Devils had their only shot of the opening half come inside the first two minutes when
Emma Cooney was turned away by Blue Jays keeper Emma Huntzinger. It took the visitors until the seventh minute as Kendall Dandridge had an attempt blocked by the defense. Hopkins continued to keep the pressure up with Katie Sullivan, Breukelen Woodard, and Dandridge all recording shots, but none of them testing keeper
Sophia Kavulich keeping things scoreless into the 30th. However, it would be JHU who struck a minute later when a corner kick by Dandridge was headed into the net by Woodard for the 1-0 halftime lead.Â
The Blue Jays made it 2-0 with 4:36 off the clock as Kacie Fillan finished off a corner from Sullivan. Dickinson went in search of an immediate response off the ensuing restart when
Katie Vassilakos found space inside the box for a shot, but Huntzinger knocked it to the side. Then, two minutes later
Maddie St. Amand knocked down a corner right at the edge of the six-yard box, unfortunately the keeper was once again up to the task. Kavulich was determined to keep the margin where it was as she made saves on Sullivan (59th) and Woodard (67th). Hopkins would however add two more tallies via penalty kicks in the 70th thanks to Fillan and Callie Jones (82nd) to set the 4-0 final.
