CHESTERTOWN, Md. - The Dickinson men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 setback to the Washington College Shoremen on the road Saturday in the regular season finale. However, the news was not all bad for the Red and White as their season will not conclude just yet as the Devils will head to the conference tournament next week.
Dickinson had the opening shot of the match with just 2:32 off the clock, but the offering from Tyson Burling went wide of keeper Tim Loeffler. Unfortunately, for the Devils the home side found the only goal of the match with their first chance when Ben Strine beat Andrew Kempe in the fifth-minute. Immediately after the Washington marker Loeffler was replaced between the sticks by Anthony Pinto. He was forced into action during the 17th-minute when he denied Geoffrey Ogenrwot. DC continued to apply the pressure as Jackson Wolf missed over the target in the 23rd, while Burling made Pinto make a stop with 29:02 off the clock. Dickinson was able to hold the deficit at just one going to the half when Kempe turned away Dominic Miller.
Washington had the opening three shots of the second period with Kempe being called upon to make one stop. Dickinson went in search of an equalizer in the 53rd, but Andrew McSlarrow headed the ball over the net. Seven minutes later Alexander Henrich took over in goal for the Red and White, and he immediately watch Saul Iwowo enter the attacking third to fire a shot at Pinto that was stopped. The Devils got three more chances in the match, unfortunately Luke Beiles missed high twice and Iwowo had his attempt blocked which allowed the home side to see out the 1-0 win.
