Devils Fall in Overtime to Green Terror in Conference Opener

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson men's basketball attempted to get back on the winning track on Tuesday night when the Green Terror of McDaniel College visited the Kline Center for the Centennial lid-lifter for both sides. Unfortunately, for the Red and White they would watch a 24-20 halftime advantage slip away en route to a 58-52 overtime loss.

The Devils got it done from distance early with triples from Drew Haueisen, Randy Shephard, and Brandon Wiercinski staked the hosts to an 11-0 lead with 4:15 off the clock. McDaniel picked up the next six with Lorin Hall, Jeong Hwang, and Jonas Sujeta trimming it down to 11-6, before Aaron Bailey, Anthony Goeb, and Haueisen helped to DC to double-up the guests at 16-8. The two sides traded the ensuing six points with Blessing Agbonlaho hitting the bottom of the net for the Red and White. An 8-0 response for the Green Terror capped off by a Sujeta layup brought the score to level terms 19-19 at the 15:32 mark. A shot from downtown for Goeb, followed by a steal and finish from Shephard helped the hosts to reclaim the 24-19 edge, prior to a foul shot by Charles Contee ending the scoring for the half at 24-20.

McDaniel started the second period with four quick points to draw even (24-24), but then three points each from Andrew Gostovich, Martin Mann, and Wiercinski helped the Devils to jump ahead 33-26 with five minutes off the clock. A Sujeta layup stopped the run for a second, before Luke Spellman and Goeb pushed the margin to double-digits 38-28 two minutes later. The Terror then began to terrorize the DC defense with an 11-0 run on buckets by Russell Dandridge, Jahdel Darego, Carter Truby, and Contee to make it 39-38 guests. Foul shots from Goeb and Mann sent the hosts back to the front (41-39), but then a Truby free throw coupled with a Sujeta finish in the lane gave McDaniel a slim 42-41 edge still with six minutes remaining. Dickinson rallied back with a 5-0 push ending with two on the stripe for Mann to grab a four-point cushion at 46-42. However, a triple by Sujeta and a layup for Dandridge bumped the guests ahead 47-46, prior to a Mann layup making DC the frontrunner at 48-47 with less than a minute to play. Unfortunately, for the Red and White Gostovich split a pair at the line to only make it a two-point game, before a buzzer-beating layup for Hall forced overtime at 49 apiece.

Things were tied early in the extra frame with Goeb and Mann scoring for the hosts, while Truby buried a shot from lone-range. However, after that it was all McDaniel as they ended the game on a 6-0 charge to close out the 58-52 win.
