Rough Couple of Minutes Too Much For Devils to Overcome Versus Diplomats

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Dickinson men's basketball team shot just 5-for-14 over the final eight minutes to allow the host Franklin & Marshall College to rally back from an 11-point first-half deficit en route to a 64-59 Centennial Conference setback at the Mayser Center on Tuesday night.

The two teams traded the first eight points with Drew Haueisen and Randy Shephard supplying the offense for the Red and White. Dickinson then embarked on an 11-0 run over a 5:10 span as Andrew Gostovich, Martin Mann, and Brandon Wiercinski all knocking down jumpers, before Blessing Agbonlaho punctuated the charge with a thunderous dunk making it 15-4 with 12:44 left in the first. The home side answered back with Josh Parra, John Seidman, and Kevin Nowoswiat embarking on a 7-2 response cutting the deficit to 17-11 at the halfway point of the period. Over the next couple of minutes there would be no scoring until Haueisen split two at the line. However, a Will Moreau foul shot sparked four straight for F&M before Skyler Venezia stroked one from downtown bumping the margin to six 21-15 at the 14:14 mark. A pair of triples from Gostovich over the remaining five minutes helped the Devils to outscore the Diplomats 8-7 to take a 29-22 edge to the locker room.

Dickinson was first on the board in the second period as Haueisen knocked down a pair on the charity line just 38-seconds in, but then a Parra layup on the ensuing trip down the floor led to a 7-3 push with DC getting a Wiercinski trey to leave the score at 34-31 with 15:48 left. Isaiah Edmond hit two at the stripe for the visitors, before layups by Julian Thomas, Parra, and Seidman resulted in the hosts reclaiming the lead thanks to an 11-0 romp (42-36). Anthony Goeb rampaged down the lane on the next possession slamming the ball home with one hand, followed by another Wiercinski triple to bring the Red and White to within 42-41 still with 11:45 to play. Sebastien Charles and Goeb exchanged free throws, before an Omar Nichols jay nudged the score to 45-42. The Devils came back to level terms at 11:08 mark when Gostovich hit once again from long-range, unfortunately he was answered immediately by Thomas from deep. He then hit one of two on the line to make it 49-45 prior to Gostovich burying a trey from the right-wing with five to go. F&M then mounted an 8-0 charge ending on a long-ball by Nichols extending the advantage to 56-48 with 18:12 off the clock. Mann converted an "old-fashioned" three-point play to stall the run for a moment, but Seidman finished at the rim on the other end (58-51). Shots from Gostovich and Wiercinski helped the Devils to cut the deficit down to 62-59, but two at the line for Nichols closed things out at 64-59.
