Big Nights From Mann and Wiercinski Not Enough Against Saints

CARLISLE, Pa. - Martin Mann and Brandon Wiercinski each recorded a season-high 20 points on Wednesday night as the Dickinson men's basketball team looked to snap a five-game skid against the visiting Marymount University in non-conference action at the Kline Center. Unfortunately, for the Red and White they were unable to slow down Marcus Stubbs as his game-high 28 as the Saints left Carlisle with a 70-66 win.

Dickinson was behind the "eight-ball" early trailing 7-2 four minutes in with Wiercinski posting the only home bucket. A triple by Andrew Gostovich along with points from Mann brought the Devils to within 10-9 a minute later. Marcus Beckett and Jack Bifano made it 13-9 visitors, before long-balls by Skyler Venezia and Wiercinski once again closed the gap to one 16-15. The Red and White finally took their first lead of the game with 8:29 off the clock when Venezia found Mann for a slam to spark a 10-2 run aided by treys from Gostovich and Wiercinski to make it 25-18 at the 13:17 mark. Over the next minute each team tallied four points with Isaiah Edmond supplying the offense for the home side. The Saints ended the period on a 6-1 push with a Luke Spellman foul shot accounting for the lone DC point to leave the hosts ahead 30-28 at halftime.

Baskets from Drew Haueisen and Mann kept the Devs in front 34-32 just over two minutes in, but five quick points by Wyatt Hockenberry sent the Saints back to the front at 37-34 with 16:28 left. Mann responded with four in a row to allow Dickinson to reclaim the lead (39--37), before Stubbs hit a jumper of his own to level the score. Haueisen, Mann, and Wiercinski all converted over the couple of minutes to keep DC in front 45-44. Marymount continued to fight back with buckets by James Bell, Beckett, and Stubbs to edge ahead 52-50 at the 11:16 mark. A Randy Shephard layup, followed by another jam from Mann cut the deficit to 57-54, but a 7-3 charge for the Saints ending on a three-ball for Stubbs gave them a six-point cushion at 63-57 with less than five to play. Another three-pointer by Wiercinski gave DC a lifeline, unfortunately Miles Phillips and Bifano stretched the margin back to four 67-63 with 82-second remaining. Wiercinski continued his hot shooting on the night by burying his sixth trey of the game to make it 67-66, but three Phillips free throws allowed the guests to close out the win.
