Box Score ANNVILLE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's lacrosse team had eight players score, including hat tricks from Regan Kawa and Syd MacKeigan to hold off a strong fourth-quarter push from the host Lebanon Valley College to knock off the Dutchmen 14-12 on Saturday afternoon at Arnold Field.
Dickinson would record the first shot of the game at the 1:24 mark, but Emma Wynne was stopped by Julia Abendschoen. Two minutes later Sydney Zimmerman looked to put LVC on top however she rang the crossbar behind DC keeper Drew Yager. The Devils would get the lead thanks to Wynne as she put home the rebound off the Liz Barroll shot. After the home side drew even at 1-1, MacKeigan tallied a pair of unassisted markers to make it 3-1 with 4:09 left in the first. LVC cut it to 3-2 through Emily Beard, while Faith Parker and Wynne tried to extend the lead, but Abendschoen stood tall to send the game to the second.
It took 47-seconds into the second period before the Dutchmen got even as Veronica Venezia won the opening draw and fired a shot into the back of the cage. The Red and White had the next three attempts on goal as Liv Yeagle and Barroll were denied by Abendschoen before Wynne capitalized on the Devils first free-position attempt of the season. That led to a timeout by LVC which also resulted in a goalie change for Dickinson as Ella Marks took over between the pipes. The Devils pushed their advantage to 5-3 after the first of the year for Parker, but LVC answered right back making it 5-4 with 5:55 left. Yager returned for the Red and White and was immediately tested as Brittany Hathaway appeared to give the hosts the lead, unfortunately, she was ruled to have been in the crease. DC would take a three-goal lead (7-4) to the half as Riley Kuehn and Kawa beat the keeper in the last two minutes.
The Devils kept the pressure up early in the third as Wynne would have an attempt blocked before Kawa buried her second of the contest at the 48-second mark. LVC once again trimmed the margin by one (8-5) as Zimmerman found the back of the cage. However, the next two went to the Red and White as Emma Norton cashed in on a free-position attempt and Yeagle followed that four minutes later to make it 10-5 with 8:44 to go. Emily Beard brought the score to 10-6 at the 7:42 mark, but tallies late in the period from Kawa on a feed from Gabby Guadalupe as well as an unassisted marker by MacKeigan had the Devils up six (12-6) heading to the fourth.
LVC dominated play during the first nine minutes of the final quarter going on a 4-1 run while limiting the Red and White to just two shots during that stretch to cut the deficit to 13-10. After Hathaway turned the ball over to Christina McLoughlin, she found Norton who setup Parker for the goal stopping the home momentum. DC had a chance to extend the lead right off the ensuing draw control as Parker hit Guadalupe for a shot, but Abendschoen made the stop. Yager would make two strong saves a minute, including one on a free-position before Hathaway stuck the ball beyond her reach to make it 14-11 with 3:21 left. Bailey Dills ended the scoring on the afternoon with 62-seconds left for the 14-12 final.
