Box Score CARLISLE, Pa. - Junior Gabby Guadalupe netted four goals on the afternoon, but it would not be enough as the visiting Misericordia University Cougars did just enough to spoil the home opener for the Red and White as they escaped Biddle Field with a 10-9 non-conference win on Wednesday afternoon.
It would be Dickinson who would record the first shot of the game as Liv Yeagle went just wide of the cage just 1:35 in. The visitors struck first on the ensuing possession when Justine Johnson found Michelle Torzilli for the 1-0 lead. Emma Wynne tried to respond for Dickinson, but Maggie McGovern made the first of her nine stops on the day. The Cougars led 2-0 with seven minutes off the clock when Molly Celesky beat Drew Yager. The Devils recorded the final four shots of the period with Liz Barroll, Riley Kuehn, and Faith Parker each missing the target before Guadalupe solved McGovern to make it 2-1 after one.
The home side came out firing on all cylinders scoring on their first two shots of the frame thanks to Emma Norton and Yeagle after being setup by Wynne on both occasions. Rachel Shook stopped the Devils run at the 2:35 mark with a free-position tally to tie the game 3-3. Over the next six minutes, there would be just one shot recorded as Madelyn Uetz was turned aside by Yager. Misericordia reclaimed the lead with 6:44 to go with Genevieve Montanye notching the second free-position marker of the quarter. Dickinson responded just 41-seconds later when Yeagle finished off a nice feed by Wynne. The Cougars wrapped up the half on a 2-0 run to take a 6-4 lead to half.
Despite Dickinson taking the first two shots of the third, it would be the Cougars who got the first goal with Torzilli cashing in on a free-position attempt. McGovern continued her solid afternoon by making stops against Regan Kawa and Yeagle to keep her team's 7-4 advantage. With less than four minutes left in the period, the Red and White cut into the deficit by two with Parker scoring on a free-position attempt, while Guadalupe added another one off the dish from Kuehn. Parker had a chance to tie the game, but McGovern made another stop prior to Celesky burying the rock for the visitors for the 8-6 edge heading to the fourth.
Misericordia extended their lead to four (10-6) with early goals from Savanna Winpigler and Celesky inside the opening three minutes. McGovern made another save at the five-minute mark of the quarter when she shutdown Barroll. After that Dickinson went down a player as Caroline Pirone was issued a yellow card. However, that turned out to be a positive for DC as Guadalupe was able to score during the penalty time. Parker and Wynne were stopped by McGovern to prevent the home side from chipping away at the deficit. Guadalupe along with Parker scored inside the final two minutes to cap off the 10-9 final.
