Box Score CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's lacrosse team watched a 6-6 halftime score balloon into a 12-7 deficit after 45-minutes en route to a 17-11 home loss to No. 12 Denison University on Sunday afternoon at Biddle Field. Liz Barroll and Gabby Guadalupe led the attack for the Red and White netting three goals each.
The teams traded blows early with Maddie Morrell cashing in for Denison before Barroll netted her first of the day. The game became 2-2 with just over five minutes gone when Casey McTague and Faith Parker each buried the rock for their side. Denison then got their third lead of the period at the 8:55 mark as Jane Bailey scored unassisted. Two minutes later DC took advantage of a yellow card against Mary Daniel when Barroll hit Guadalupe for the player-up marker.
To begin the second both sides made goaltending changes as Caroline O'Dea replaced Maeve Caldwell, while Ella Marks went between the sticks for Drew Yager. Marks was challenged early as she turned aside Jane Lukens and Abby Van Metre inside the opening five minutes. Dickinson grabbed their first lead of the game with 10:11 left thanks to Liv Yeagle. Marks made her third save of the period off the ensuing draw when she stopped Lukens from tying the score. Denison would however find the equalizer a couple of minutes later through Casey McTague off a free-position chance, but the Devils answered right back with Guadalupe hitting the back of the net off a dish from Yeagle. McTague added two more to reclaim the lead for the visitors before Barroll scored with 16-ticks left to tie the game 6-6 at half.
Ashley Viglione made it 7-6 Big Red with 1:38 gone before Emma Norton tallied player-up after a yellow card was issued to McTague. The remainder of the third belonged to Denison as they racked up nine shots scoring five goals, including three on three consecutive attempts to take a commanding 12-7 lead after three. Dickinson had just three shots after the Norton goal, but Caldwell made saves against Syd MacKeigan and Parker (2).
The Red and White looked to start a comeback early in the fourth as Guadalupe finished off a nice pass from Riley Kuehn. However, Denison picked up the next two markers to extend their advantage to 14-8 with five minutes off the clock. After Caldwell denied Parker on a free-position attempt, Barroll finished off the rebound to trim the gap to 14-9. Unfortunately, the Big Red added two more through Maddie Morrell and Viglione, prior to Regan Kawa solving the Caldwell puzzle to make it 16-10. Each side chipped in one more free-position goal with Morrell scoring for the guests, while MacKeigan buried the rock for the Devils to cap off the 17-11 final.
