Box Score SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's lacrosse team began slowly on Saturday afternoon falling behind 4-0 after one quarter en route to suffering a 16-8 loss to the host Swarthmore College Garnet in the Centennial Conference opener for both sides at Clothier Field Stadium.
Swarthmore went up early 2-0 with markers from Emma Holub and Helena Irvine on their first two shots of the game. The home side made it 3-0 at the 5:42 mark when Eleanor Miller beat Drew Yager. Dickinson finally recorded their first shot on goal with 6:17 remaining in the period when Faith Parker was denied by Helen Stafford on a free-position chance. With just over a minute left Holub extended it to 4-0 by picking up a rebound off a shot from Kyra Hall and sticking the ball in the cage. DC had two cracks at denting Stafford before the end of the quarter, but Liv Yeagle missed wide and Emma Wynne was turned aside by the keeper.
Ella Marks took over between the pipes to start the second and was immediately tested as Miller fired the rock into the net for the 5-0 advantage. The Red and White applied some pressure four minutes later with Gabby Guadalupe and Delaney Herbert each taking shots before Yeagle put the ball past Stafford. After the Garnet made it 6-1, Dickinson went on a nice run to end the frame with Riley Kuehn, Herbert, Parker, and Yeagle all beating the keeper inside the final five minutes to close the deficit to 6-5 at halftime.
Less than a minute into the third quarter Izzy Hall forced a turnover on the defensive end which led to Yeagle completing her hat trick and leveling the game at 6-6 still with 13:03 to go. DC had a chance to grab their first lead of the day two minutes later when Wynne got a good look at cage but was denied by Stafford. That seemed to wake the Garnet offense back up as the home side scored on their next four shots to reclaim a 10-6 advantage. Holub looked to add onto the lead but was shutdown by Marks which led to Wynne going down the other end of the field and hitting the back of the net to stall the run. Unfortunately, for the Red and White Swathmore responded with three more to end the period up 13-7.
To begin the fourth quarter Sierra McLaughlin replaced Marks in cage. She much like the other two Devils keeper was tested right away as Isabela Bloomquist had a free-position shot that McLaughlin stopped. However, Hall would make the second shot for the Garnet count as she hit the back of the net for the 14-7 edge. With 2:54 off the clock, a green card issued to Irvine resulted in a player-up marker for Parker to knock one off the deficit making it 14-8. McLaughlin allowed two more goals in the period but did also make four more saves to set the 16-8 final.
