CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's soccer team got major contributions from first-years
Lila Brown,
Georgia Mantione, and
Katie Vassilakos en route to a convincing 6-0 non-conference season opening win over the visiting Mount Aloysius College Mounties at Miller Memorial Field on Thursday night.
Dickinson came out firing right from the opening whistle as Mantione missed the net in the third-minute, before sending one past goalkeeper Courtney Vought five minutes later for her first in a Red Devils kit. Less than a minute later it was Vassilakos handing out her second of five helpers on the night when she found
Allie Charnas who hit the twine. The Devils continued to apply the pressure with
Meg Tate firing four shots, before she buried the thrid of the half for the Red and White in the 20th-minute. Vought would be forced into four more saves in the opening 45-minutes when she denied
Lauren Bracken,
Ellie Nordwind (2), and
Maddie St. Amand. The Mounties were pretty much kept in their own half for most of the period, but did breakthrough the DC line once when Emma Farabaugh was stopped by
Sophia Kavulich with 33:27 off the clock.
To begin the second-half it seemed like Vassilakos was sick of being the provider and wanted to hit the net herself, but she would be denied twice by Vought. However, she got back on the scoresheet in the 55th when she served in a brilliant corner kick that was headed in by
Charlotte Glancey to extend the margin to 4-0. Three minutes later Tate completed her brace off another great setup from whoelse but Vassilakos.
Allison Cudmore,
Lexie Greene, and
Becca Schulman all tried to add onto the advantage, but missed the mark. DC eventually capped off the scoring in the 78th-minute as they took advantage of another set piece when
Sophia Elguera played in a corner that was nodded into the top-corner by Brown. The Devils would also get a look at their other two keepers as
Emma Burrows and
Katey Van Kirk saw time during the second-half with only Van Kirk being forced into a save during the 88th.
