HAVERFORD, Pa. - First-year
Lila Brown netted the lone goal for the Red and White on Saturday as the Dickinson women's soccer team and the host Haverford College shared the points with a 1-1 draw in Centennial Conference opener for both sides at Walton Field.
Neither side was able to muster a look at goal in the opening 15-plus minutes, until
Katie Vassilakos whipped in a corner that was finished off by Brown passed Haverford keeper Claire Cywes with 1737 off the clock for the 1-0 lead. Unfortunately for the Devils just over a minute later the Fords found the equalizer with Liv McMillan beating
Sophia Kavulich off a dish from Keira Prince. Both goalies were tested inside the next two minutes as Kavulich denied Alyssa Saito, while Cywes said no to Vassilakos. The Fords would record the next three shots with Nora Gaby-Biegel missing twice, followed by Sadie Kim forcing a save by Kavulich. Dickinson had a chance to grab the lead in the final minute when Brown had her header pushed aside by Cywes.
The Devils had the opening three chances of the second-half as Vassilakos had a shot slip past the keeper, but it was cleared off the line by a Fords defender in the 51st minute. Then,
Jessica Kiefer missed high ten minutes later, followed by a rip from Vassilakos that sailed wide. Neither keeper was called upon in the final 15-minutes as
Emma Cooney for Dickinson and Phoebe Garfield and Grace Haskell for the Fords were not able to scare the goal leading to the final whistle.
