CARLISLE, Pa. - Dickinson first-year defender
Luke Finkielstein headed home a corner from
Geoffrey Ogenrwot in the 87th minute to get the Red and White a pivotal 1-0 Centennial Conference win over the visiting Ursinus College Bears on Saturday evening at Miller Memorial Field on Homecoming.
Dickinson was on the front foot early as Finkielstein was denied by visitng keeper Kirk Ransome inside the opening five minutes. Less than a minute later DC had another go at taking the lead, but
Mack Moore missed high. It took 15 minutes for either side to get another good look at goal when
Ethan Jarden worked inside the attacking third and rocketed a shot off the crossbar. Ursinus finally recorded their first two attempts during the 29th with
Andrew Kempe turning aside a shot from Tommy Mollis, before Colin Deal fired high. With less than five minutes remaining in the half both sides would get one more quality chance to find a goal with Marco Grenda being stopped by Kempe, while
Chris Hackley was told no by Ransome.
In the 53rd minute, Jarden had a shot sail high to the left, while Mollis couldn't scare Kempe with his offering two minutes later. With less than 30 minutes remaining Finkielstein once again made his way up from the defense to let a shot fly at frame, but missed to the right. Then, in the 70th Devils forward
Saul Iwowo blasted a shot from the top of the box, however Ransome was there to turn it away. The next 15 minutes were played mostly in the midfield, before Joshua Coster tried to give the Bears a late lead, but was told no by Kempe. That led to DC heading back down the pitch earning a corner.
Tyson Burling hit an in-swinging cross that glanced off the head of Moore who was stopped. Ransome then made another stop off a header from Jarden, before Finkielstein buried the cross from Ogenrwot for the winner.
