CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson men's soccer team got a 77th-minute goal from first-year
Luke Finkielstein, but it would not be enough as the 21st-ranked Gettysburg College Bullets handed the Red and White their first conference loss by a final of 3-1 on Wednesday night at Miller Memorial Field.
Dickinson had the first three chances of the match inside the opening ten minutes as
Ethan Jarden was turned aside by Kevin Muhic, before
Luke Beiles and
Tyson Burling both missed the target. The visitors first shot came in the 18th-minute off the boot of Jack Carroll, but it did not threaten Devils keeper
Andrew Kempe. Most of the remainder of the first half was played in the midifield as there was not another attempt at goal until the 43:22 mark when Mike Carracino gave the guests a 1-0 edge at half.
The Bullets had the first three chances of the second period with Aidan Muller and Nur Adhikarie missing the mark, prior to Jack Carroll extending the margin to 2-0 with 56:59 gone. Dickinson then tried to work their way back into the match as Beiles missed to the left, while
Saul Iwowo sailed a shot off to the right in the 65th. Jarden called on Muhic during the 66th-mintue, but the keeper was up to task. The Red and White finally broke through at the 76:44 mark when Burling found Finkielstein for his third of the season. Off the ensuing kickoff DC tried to find the equalizer. However, the offering from Iwowo was blocked by the defense. The Bullets put the match away in the 88th thanks to an unassisted tally for Chase Sempervive.
