SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Senior forward
Meg Tate buried the first goal of the match in the 52nd-minute, but the host Susquehanna University River Hawks responded with two goals in the second-half themselves to knock off the Red and White 2-1 on Wednesday night at Sassafras Field.
Susquehanna recorded the first shot of the match in the third-minute when Mikela Florio missed over the top of goalkeeper
Sophia Kavulich. Then, Dickinson went to work with the next four attempts at goal as
Emma Cooney,
Katie Vassilakos, and Tate missed the mark, before Tate finally put one on target in the 20th forcing a save from Paisley Tornatore. The rest of the half neither team could mount much of an offensive attack as there was not another shot over the final 25 minutes of the half.
The Hawks would once again record the first shot of the half when Gillian Maack missed over the net with 46:34 off the clock. Dickinson picked up the first marker of the match in the 52nd minute when Cooney setup Tate for her third of the year. However, two minutes later the Hawks were on level terms as Maack slipped a shot beyond the reach of Kavulich. The Red and White pushed for the go-ahead tally with
Maddie St. Amand and Vassilakos both forcing stops out of Tornatore to keep the score at 1-1 heading into the final 15. Unfortunately, for DC the home side grabbed the lead in the 87th when Ellie Betheil found Marley Sprenkel for the finish. Vassilakos gave the Devils a chance at forcing overtime a minute later, but Tornatore made her third stop of the night to preserve the win.
