HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Dickinson men's basketball team did not have a player reach double-figures on the afternoon, while the host Haverford College had three members accomplish that feat en route to a 60-53 Centennial Conference win for the Fords at Gooding Arena.
The Red and White got off to a strong start as buckets from
Isaiah Edmond and
Andrew Gostovich had the visitors up 6-2 with three minutes off the clock. Haverford responded with six of their own thanks to Jackson Ryan and Nate Torres to take an 8-6 edge with 6:30 off the clock. Over the next two minutes paint buckets from
Luke Spellman and Gostovich coupled with a three-ball by
Brandon Wiercinski move the Devils back on top 13-10. However, that seemed to wake up the Fords offense as four different players recorded buckets for the home side during an 11-0 charge to make it 21-13 with just under eight minutes remaining in the opening half. Scores by
Randy Shephard and Edmond helped DC to chip away at the margin pulling to within 26-19 with 15:30 off the clock. A minute later
Martin Mann recorded his first bucket to start a 7-0 run with
Anthony Goeb and Edmond also chipping in to pull level at 26-26. Layups by Harry Johnson and Torres ended the scoring in the first to leave the Fords on top 30-26.Â
Six points by
Aaron Bailey and a layup for Gostovich allowed Dickinson to cut into the deficit by just one to 35-32 with five minutes gone. The trio of Bailey, Goeb and Shephard each knocked down a jumper to bring the Red and White back to the front by the slimmest of margins at 38-37. Haverford answered back with five in a row thanks to Ryan and Torres to move ahead 42-38 with less than nine to play. A layup by Mann stunted the Fords charge for a second, but then the hosts embarked on an 8-3 run with a Wiercinski triple being the only DC bucket to make it 50-43 with 15:34 off the clock. Dickinson would not go down quietly however as three points each from Mann and Wiercinski cut the deficit to just one at 50-49. The Devils could only muster four points the rest of the way as Goeb and Shephard each hit two on the charity line, but was not enough as the Fords closed the game on an 11-4 charge to lockdown the 60-53 win.
