CARLISLE, Pa. - Graduate student
Martin Mann had a solid night posting a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds. However, it would not be enough for the Red and White as the visiting Gettysburg College left the Kline Center with an 81-65 conference win on Wednesday evening.
Things were "nip and tuck" early as four points from
Anthony Goeb along with a jumper for
Isaiah Edmond had Dickinson behind 9-6 with 5:14 off the clock. The duo of Jordan Stafford and Elijah Williams then went on a 6-0 push to bump the margin out to 15-6. However, the Devils had an immediate answer with a 7-3 run of their own on buckets from Edmond and Goeb to make it 18-13 at the halfway point of the period. Gettysburg then provided a counter punch going on a 9-3 charge as Antonello Baggi, Carl Schaller, Nate Williams and Stafford all chipped in to stretch the lead over double-digits at 27-16. A
Drew Haueisen triple and a pair of jumpers from Mann kept the home side within shouting distance 28-23, but a Schaller three-ball nudged it back out to 31-23 with just over two minutes left.
Luke Spellman picked up his first points of the night with two at the line, followed by two for Mann making it 31-27. Williams would draw a foul just before half and converted a pair on the charity stripe for the 33-27 halftime advantage.Â
Coming out of the Dickinson seemed determined to get back into the game as
Andrew Gostovich,
Randy Shephard, Edmond and Mann all scored within the opening four minutes to cut the deficit down to 40-37 prompting a GC timeout. The Bullets responded in a big way out of the break with Stafford netting six points during an 8-3 spurt as a Gostovich triple provided the lone DC bucket making it 48-40. Two baskets from Goeb sandwiched a layup for Max Pernetti to shift the margin to five at 50-45 still with 12:26 to play. Jumpers by Goeb and Mann coupled with two on the line by Spellman allowed the Red and White to keep hanging around 57-51 with ten minutes off the clock. Ove the next four minutes the Bullets opened things up with a 14-4 romp to make it 71-55. Two Gostovich treys and a bucket in the paint for Mann chipped away slightly to 74-63 with 2:43 remaining. Gettysburg ended the game by scoring seven of the final nine points to set the 81-65 result.
