Scorching Hot Shooting Leads Devils to First Conference Win

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - The Dickinson men's basketball team found their offensive touch on Saturday afternoon as the Red and White shot a scorching 61.7% (37-60) from the floor and got a season-high 30 points from graduate transfer Martin Mann en route to a 94-80 Centennial Conference win over the host Washington College Shoremen at Fall Gym. It was the most points and best shooting percentage from the floor for the Red and White since November 20, 2018 when they went 42-66 (63.6%) against Muhlenberg in a 101-63 triumph.

Nick Romeo got the hosts on the board first with 52-seconds off the clock, but then buckets in the paint from Isaiah Edmond and Mann along with triples by Anthony Goeb and Randy Shephard helped DC to grab a 15-4 advantage at the five minute mark. Four points from Grant Kemp as well as jumpers for Ryan Lang, Ethan Schwantes, and Jason Zielinski cut the margin by eight to three (20-17) at the halfway point of the period. A three-ball out of the hands of Skyler Venezia snapped the Red Devils offense back to attention as they amassed a dominating 17-2 run with Aaron Bailey, Drew Haueisen, Shephard, and Mann all chipping in as well to open up a commanding 37-19 edge with 3:39 left. Three Shoremen contributed on a 7-2 push to close within 39-26 with 17:28 elapsed. Washington would not score again the remainder of the half as Brandon Wiercinski buried a shot from deep, while Goeb and Mann added paint points during a 9-0 stretch to head into the break up 48-26.

The visitors continued to add on out of the locker room with buckets from Goeb and Mann stretching the margin to 54-28 less than two minutes in. The two sides traded the next eight points, before triples by Davis Bland and Sam Corrao trimmed things up a little bit to 58-39 with five minutes gone. However, Dickinson had the response with Blessing Agbonlaho sparking a 7-2 run that culminated in a three-pointer for Wiercinski to make it 65-41. Washington continued to show fight on their home floor with buckets by Kedrick Frink Bland and Zielinski leading to a 12-3 charge that cut the deficit to 68-53. Four points each from Edmond and Mann over the next couple of minutes made sure to keep the Shoremen at bay 76-58 with 7:32 remaining. After a scoreless minute the push continued from the hosts with Corrao netting five points during a 7-2 string that made it 78-65. A trey by Luke Spellman, followed by paint buckets for Edmond and Goeb extended it to 87-71, prior to Romeo stroking a three of his own with 72-seconds to go. From there the Devils would salt things away on the charity line as Goeb, Venezia, and Wiercinski each made two, while Shephard split a pair to set the 94-80 final.
