CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - The Dickinson men's soccer team got a brace from
Saul Iwowo and a single tally by
Connor Uitterdijk to knock off the host DeSales University by a final of 3-1 at DUC Field on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.
Dickinson was on the attack early as both
Tyson Burling and
Johnny Diederich fired shots towards Conner Zimmerman inside the opening four minutes, but did not force him into a save. At the other end of the park Larry Agyei went wide of DC keeper
Nick Potter. The next ten minutes went by with neither side able to gain much possession in the attacking third, until
Ethan Jarden let an attempt go at Zimmerman unfortunately the defense was there to knock it down. Dickinson got another chance during the 28th-minutes when
Saul Iwowo was snuffed out by the Bulldogs defense. Three minutes following that attempt a DSU foul just outside the box resulted in a Devils free kick. Colin Hoffmann would step up to the ball and hit a curling shot that Zimmerman collected down to his left. The Red and White continued to dominate the field possession as Iwowo had another attempt blocked, before
Austin Holloway found space down the left-side and let a pass go to Iwowo who beat Zimmerman to the near post for the 1-0 lead with 36:44 off the clock. The remaining eight-plus minutes would go by without any more shots recorded as Dickinson took a 1-0 advantage to the break.
To begin the second half,
Thomas Sniezek took over between the sticks for Potter and was immediately put under duress as Liam MacDonald missed high, before he struck at the 7:16 mark of the frame off a feed from Kevin Krall. Just over two minutes later Dickinson had the response with Burling and Iwowo unable to best Zimmerman, but Jarden tracked down the ball to the right of the 18-yard box and laid a cross to
Connor Uitterdijk who knocked it home for the 2-1 edge. Off the ensuing kickoff the Devils turned the Bulldogs over and charged into the attacking half with Uitterdijk trying to complete his brace, however, it did not get to the keeper. It took DeSales until the 65th-minute to tally their next chance when Owen Maher was shutdown by Sniezek, while at the other end Jarden was not able to both Zimmerman. However, the Red and White did indeed extend the margin to 3-1 at the 67:02 mark thanks to Iwowo notching his second of the match when
Luke Beiles played a beautiful through ball into the box which he chipped over the keeper. Hoffmann and Jarden recorded another shot each in the 73rd and 76th respectively. Unfortunately, for the Red and White they would play the final ten-plus minutes a player down after Holloway was assessed a red card. Despite being down a man the Devils were not deterred as
Giorgio Gayleard and
Nicky Williams asked questions of the DSU backline with Zimmerman having to record one more stop. During the 83rd-minute the third keeper of the day for the Red Devils entered the match as
Aidan George went in. He would see just one shot in his time in the match denying Papa Micah in the 89th to set the 3-1 result.
