CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson men's soccer went in search of their fourth-straight win and a valuable three points in the Centennial Conference standings on Saturday afternoon against the Swarthmore College Garnet at Clothier Field. Unfortunately, for the Red and White a goal in each half for the home side was enough for them to pick up a 2-1 win.
The hosts wasted no time getting the first goal of the match as Adrien Marcelli sent a free kick out of the reach of DC keeper
Alexander Henrich in the fifth minute. Then, just a little over ten minutes later Antonio Callegari and Len Yamabe were turned aside by the Devils backline, while Matthew Loreg sent an offering wide. Dickinson finally recorded their opening shot of the contest with 20:52 gone as
Connor Uitterdijk was stopped by Christian Bignotti. In the 34th-minute, Henrich was forced from the game leading to
Nick Potter going between the sticks and immediately called into action shutting down Stathis Kalathias, while Shlok Kaul missed high right to send things to the half.
Swarthmore was completely on the "front foot" to begin the second period as they earned four corners and tallied four shots resulting in two saves and one goal in the opening 15 minutes. The Red and White worked their way into the attacking third with 63:56 gone leading to an offering for Saul Iwow that was beaten to the side by Bignotti, before
Mack Moore missed to the left. Dickinson continued to apply some preesure as both
Johnny Diederich and Moore forced the Garnet keeper to record two more saves. The visitors made sure not to be shutout however as at the 82:48 mark
Geoffrey Ogenrwot and
Chaz Smith combined to setup
Ethan Jarden for the finish to cut it down to 2-1. Unfortunately, the Devils were unable to record another shot allowing Swarthmore to collect the win.Â
