COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Dickinson men's soccer team fell behind early but responded with two goals in each half and outshot the host Ursinus College 27-8 (13-4 on target) to pick up a pivotal 4-1 Centennial Conference win over the Bears at Patterson Field on Saturday afternoon.
The home side had the Devils of the backfoot early in the match as Amar Dzombalic (2) and Tommy Mollis each let shots fly at DC keeper
Nick Potter tasking him with making one save within the opening 13 minutes. Then, with 13:52 off the clock Mollis would find the back of the net for the 1-0 edge. Dickinson then went on the attack as
Saul Iwowo (2) and
Chaz Smith forced three stops from Ursinus goalie Zach Matik. After Potter had the answer for Harry Lorenc,
Jordan Grivekov,
Cole Jennings,
Connor Uitterdijk and Iwowo all ripped shots at goal, but only called upon Matik once. Dickinson finally would make all the pressure payoff at the 36:55 mark when
Tyson Burling pinged the crossbar, fortunately, though the ball came right back to him allowing a pass to be made to
Jackson Wolf who put it home to tie the score. The Red and White continue to just let shots fly at goal as Grivekov was denied,
Giorgio Gayleard missed, and Iwowo cashed in the second assist of the day for Burling to take a 2-1 lead to the break.Â
With less than five minutes off the clock in the second-half the Bears had two cracks at an equalizer, but Mollis was shutdown by Potter and Dzombalic went high of the target. Then, in the 51st-minute it became 3-1 Devils thanks to
Ethan Jarden as he finished off a dish from
Geoffrey Ogenrwot. Just a minute after that a foul in the box by Mason Lorah led to Iwowo stepping up to the spot and depositing the shot past Matik to make it 4-1. Over the next 20-plus minutes the visitors just continued to fire away at goal as Burling, Iwowo and Jarden all forced stops out of the keeper, while
Alessandro Forero, Gayleard, and Grivekov each missed the target as Dickinson secured the comfortable 4-1 victory.

Postseason Outlook
With just one conference match left Dickinson unfortunately sits on the outside looking in of the playoff picture on eight points trailing the final team Swarthmore by two points. The Red and White will not control their own destiny going into the final day of the conference season on Saturday. The Devils will need to beat Johns Hopkins and have the Swarthmore-Haverford match earlier in the day not end in a tie to make the dance.
Next on the Pitch
Dickinson (8-5-2, 2-4-2 Centennial) will conclude their non-conference schedule on Wednesday afternoon at 4pm when they will host Salisbury University at Miller Memorial Field.
