WESTMINSTER, Md. - The Dickinson field hockey got a goal each from
Alexandra Hockwitt,
Ella Krenzer and
Abby Marthins en route to a huge 3-1 Centennial Conference win over the host McDaniel College on Wednesday night a Gill Stadium.
First-year
Taylor Schlein made her first start between the pipes for the Devils and immediately watched her offense go on the attack towards the cage patrolled by Lora Scarangello.
Maggie Carson recorded the first shot of the eveing, but went wide of the mark. Then, in the 9th-minute Dickinson earned two corners that led to chances from
Malena Malka Goldman,
Nicole Uebele and Krenzer (2), which tasked Scarangello with making a pair of saves. However, Krenzer did eventually put the Red and White on the board as she finished off her own rebound with 10:31 gone. The visitors defense continued to just stymie the home side's offense as they were held without a shot over the first period.
Dickinson pushed the lead to 2-0 just over two minutes into the second when a corner played in by A. Marthins came to Uebele who missed wide. However, she was able to corral her own miss and feed Hockwitt for the score. The Green Terror were finally able to generate some offensive pressure in the 19th-minute, as they earned four corners and recorded a pair of shots neither of which tested Schlein. The Devils attempted to extend the margin to 3-0 when Uebele let an attempt go towards cage, but Scarangello was there to beat it away. McDaniel had the final two chances of the half, fortunately for the Devils they were both blocked by the DC defense.
The third quarter saw
Olivia Renault take over in goal for the Devils and was not put under any kind of duress until the 37th-minute as
Morgan Yandow-Harding recorded a shot off a corner. Once McDaniel gained the offensive end they would earn a corner which resulted in a shot from Emma Legacy that was denied by Renault. The Terror forced two more corners over the final seven minutes of the quarter, but could not tally another shot.
Six minutes into the final frame the Devils were up 3-0 when a corner from A. Marthins went to
Sammi Moonay at the top of the circle which she returned to Marthins for the finish. Dickinson did not want the scoring to end as
Megan McClure, Hockwitt, Moonay and Yandow-Harding each recorded shots forcing three more stops out of Scarangello to preserve the 3-0 deficit. Unfortunately, for the Red and White the shutout would not happen as Legacy carried the ball down the right-side and ripped a shot beyond the reach of Renault to the short-side for the 3-1 final.
