BRYN MAWR, Pa. - The Dickinson women's lacrosse team had five different players cash in during a six-goal second quarter to turn a 3-3 game into a 9-3 halftime advantage that they were able to rideout to a 13-6 conference road win over the host Owls of Bryn Mawr College on Saturday afternoon at Applebee Field.
Dickinson tried to take the lead inside the opening minute as
Delaney Herbert controlled the opening draw leading to a shot from
Faith Parker that hit the post next to Owls goalie Elizabeth Tompkins. That miss led to Bryn Mawr flying back down the field and recording the next four shots which saw DC keeper
Peyton VanDorpe make two stops, before Maya DiFrischia made it 1-0 with three minutes gone. A BMC turnover caused by Parker led to Herbert finding the back of the next. Then, just under a minute later she found
Liv Yeagle for her first of the day and a 2-1 advantage. A minute after that Sloan Johnson tallied for the hosts to draw even. Both Tompkins and VanDorpe would record another save, but it would be the Owls that hit the back of the net next when Johsnon finished her second of the day. However, DC was determined to head to the second even as Yeagle was stopped by the goalie, prior to
Emma Wynne tracking down the loose ball and depositing it behind Tompkins for the 3-3 tie after one.
The second period was all Devils as they outshot the home side 12-1 and scored six times, while winning six draw controls. The period began with Herbert claiming the draw and then watching
Syd MacKeigan ring the iron and Wynne be turned aside by Tompkins. After Herbert forced a turnover out of Morgan Nash the floodgates open on the Owls as the group of
Bella Guckes,
Regan Kawa,
Riley Kuehn, Wynne (2) and Yeagle went on the six-goal scoring run over the final dozen minutes to take a 9-3 lead into the break.
Dickinson would be unable to cash in on an early free-position shot in the third as Parker missed high. That unfortunately led to the home side finding a little bit of a spark sa Sophie Sangster notched the first goal for the Owls since the first, before Camille Franklin added another with 5:34 off the clock to cut the deficit down to 9-5. Off the ensuing draw collected by
Caroline Pirone,
Caroline Cavendish dished the rock to Kuehn for the finish opening the gap back out to five (10-5). The Red and White tried to add onto the advantage a minute later, but Wynne was stoned by Tompkins, while Pirone ripped one wide of cage. VanDorpe was not to be outdone by her counterpart as she stood tall against both Franklin and Johnson to allow the game to head to the final period at 10-5.
The Red Devils went on the attack right away to start the fourth with
Izzy Hall forcing a save out of Tompkins with just 53-seconds off the clock. After that it was all DC as Herbert made it 11-5 with a free-position tally, before
Maisy Lewerenz followed suit with by notching a free-position of her own. With two minutes gone Wynne stretched the advantage to 13-5 with an unassisted finish. Dickinson would be held without a shot over the ensuing ten minutes, while the goalkeeping tandem of VanDorpe and
Ella Marks recorded a save apiece. The Owls capped off the scoring for the day on a free-position marker by Orli McGuire-Berk. The Devils asked more questions of Tompkins late in the period, but she had the answer for Cavendish and Wynne (2) to close out the game at 13-6.
