WESTMINSTER, Md. - The Dickinson women's lacrosse team had three players net hat-tricks and used a six-goal fourth quarter to secure a 15-9 Centennial Conference road win over McDaniel College on Wednesday night at Gill Stadium.
It would take nearly three minutes to see the first shot of the game when a foul on Acadia Noll inside the attacking area led to
Delaney Herbert burying a free-position chance behind Astrid Jensen. The Red and White defense was lockdown early as they did not allow a home shot over the first five minutes, until Kat Thayer sent a free-position offering wide. Dickinson recorded the next two shots with
Liv Yeagle being stopped by the keeper, before
Liz Barroll tallied unassisted at the 6:07 mark. Off the ensuing draw control McDaniel got on the board thanks to Noll. Jensen continued to be busy in her crease recording three more stops against
Faith Parker (2) and Yeagle, while at the other end
Peyton VanDorpe was tasked with just one stop. After a bad pass by Noll,
Maisy Lewerenz found the looseball and fed it ahead to
Riley Kuehn who setup
Jenna Nowland for the finish. However, the Green Terror tallied twice on their own inside the final two minutes to draw even after one.Â
The Dickinson defense was dominant over the first seven minutes as they forced McDaniel into three turnovers and allowed no shots, while Herbert, Kuehn and Parker each scored once to open the margin out to 6-3. Noll recorded the first chance for the home side of the period, but was stonewalled by VanDorpe. The Devils then rode the momentum of that save to their seventh marker of the as Barroll bounced one home between Jensen's legs. McDaniel then notched the final two shots of the half with Emma Miller taking both scoring once and being stopped by VanDorpe on the other to give DC the 7-4 advantage to the break.
The Devils wasted little time hitting the back of the net in the third as Barroll tallied at the 1:05 mark. Dickinson kept up the pressure with offerings from Parker ringing the iron, while Yeagle was stopped by Jensen. That put the energy back in the hands of the Green Terror and they would take advantage of it scoring twice, before DC got their next marker with 4:55 gone thanks to
Regan Kawa burying the rock unassisted. The visitors took five of the next six shots with
Emma Wynne (3), Herbert and Parker all taking cracks at Jensen forcing her to make one save. However, it would be the home side that struck when Julia Corry finished off a free position opportunity with two minutes left. McDaniel tried to add one more prior to the end of the period, but Noll was denied by VanDorpe to leave it at 9-7 going to the fourth.Â
An early turnover caused by
Mia Seergae gave DC the opportunity to reach double-digits when Nowland ripped the net. After the ensuing draw was taken by Parker a foul inside the attack arc led to Herbert striking again from a free-position opportunity stretching it out to 11-7 with 12:11 left. Dickinson kept up their run with
Gabby Guadalupe and Wynne both solving Jensen, while
Caroline Cavendish went wide of the target leaving the Devils in front 13-7 at the nine minute mark. McDaniel finally ended the four-goal DC charge when Charlotte Alexander beat VanDorpe. However, the Red and White had the immediate response through Parker with a free-position shot. Each team traded goals over the final 90-seconds with Nowland completing her hat-trick to set the 15-9 score.
