CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's soccer team got a brace from
Emma Cooney along with markers from four other players en route to a 6-1 non-conference pounding of visiting Pitt-Greensburg in the 2023 home opener at Miller Memorial Field on Sunday afternoon.
The Red and White wasted little time getting on the board as the ball worked its way back to Bobcats keeper Hailey Kepner who rocketed the ball off of
Ava Prisco and had it bounce into the net for a 1-0 edge just 1:45 in. Dickinson continued to keep the pressure on the Pitt-Greensburg back line with
Maddie St. Amand,
Katie Vassilakos and Prisco all forced stops out of Kepner. The Devils made it 2-0 during the 23rd when
Allie Charnas jabbed home a rebound off a Prisco attempt. Over the following ten minutes DC continued the attack with offerings coming from
Allison Cudmore,
Sophia Elguera and
Isra Khan, however, none of them dented Kepner. Cooney would bag her first of the afternoon with 37:12 off the clock when
Emily Dunkel played in a corner that glanced off Cooney's head and into the goal for the 3-0 edge. The Bobcats had their first shot of the game in the 42nd when Sarah Tonkovich put one right into the arms of
Sophia Kavulich to send the match to the half.
Inside the opening three minutes of the second period Dickinson would tally two more shots with Kepner having to beat aside the offerings from Prisco and Vassilakos. However, the Red and White would find the back of the net on their ensuing two shots thanks to
Norah Heacock and Cooney to extend the margin out to 5-0 with just five minutes elapsed. The Devils added five more shots over the next 15 minutes with Kepner making stops on
Sarah Cudmore and St. Amand, while
Ava Cefaloni, A. Cudmore and Charnas. The Devils pushed the gap to 6-0 when A. Cudmore worked her way down the right-side and tip-toed through the PG defense, before sliding a ball to the top of the six-yard box which is guided into the net by Khan with 65:18 gone. Unfortunately for Dickinson they could not see out their fourth clean sheet of the season as Alexis Dubzak found Sarah Tonkovich who fired a shot over new DC keeper
Emma Burrows who took over for Kavulich in the 60th-minute.
Lauren Flowers,
Lexie Greene and Cefaloni all tried to get the marker back, but Kepner was up to the task on all of them to finish out the 6-1 final.
