CARLISLE, Pa. - For the first time this season the Dickinson women's soccer team suffered a defeat as the Red and White dropped a 2-0 non-conference contest on Wednesday evening to the visiting York College of Pennsylvania at Miller Memorial Field.
Dickinson was out on the "front-foot" early with
Lila Brown,
Bridget Merkel,
Ellie Nordwind,
Ava Prisco and
Maddie St. Amand each recording shots inside the opening 16-minutes forcing two stops out of Spartans keeper Teresa Gonzalez. It would take until the 33rd-minute for the next shot to occur when unfortunately for the Devils Meg Kalthof found Sara Frensley for the first goal of the match as she beat
Sophia Kavulich. The Red and White tried to find an immediate response with
Sophia Elguera tallying two more shots, but Gonzalez beat one of them to the side while the other sailed wide left. However, York would not be done as a foul inside the 18-yard box with just four-seconds left in the half allowed Morgan Joyce to step up to the spot and bury the shot from 12-yards out for the 2-0 halftime advantage.
To begin the second period the Devils were on the attack as
Katie Vassilakos, Brown and Prisco all missed the mark inside the first seven minutes. Over the next 15 minutes there would be just one shot recorded as Abby Brown was denied by Kavulich with 55:29 off the clock. Dickinson was unable to muster much offensive pressure the remainder of the match as
Emma Cooney and Brown tallied the final two shots for the home side in the 74th and 81st respectively tasking Gonzalez with making just one more stop to seal up the clean sheet.
