CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson men's soccer team kicked off Centennial Conference play on Saturday afternoon by welcoming the Shoremen of Washington College to Miller Memorial Field. After 90-minutes neither side was able to leave with all three points in the conference standings as the two sides played to a 2-2 draw.
Each team was able to put the opposing keeper under duress early as
Connor Uitterdijk missed high in the second-minute, while Harrison Malone rang the post next to DC keeper
Alexander Henrich a minute later. Then in the seventh-minute Tyler Davidson hauled down a Devils attacking player in the box resulting in a penalty kick which was put away by
Saul Iwowo. Washington came right back down the field and watched Katim Njie fire a shot over the top of goal. However, the visitors would strike in the 18th thanks to an unassisted tally from Ben Strine. There was just one other shot recorded in the opening half and it came off the boot of
Chaz Smith, but it went right into the arms of Anthony Pinto to send the match to the break tied.
The opening ten minutes of the second-half saw WAC carry a majority of the play as they earned three corners and tallied two shots with Njie being blocked by the defense, while Shepherd Koffie struck with 55:54 off the clock for the 2-1 edge. Dickinson responded with the next three chances as Uitterdijk missed to the left, but
Cole Jennings had a shot blocked by the defense that fell to Iwowo who slipped a pass to
Finn Weber that he pounded home for the equalizer in the 70th. The Shoremen then went in search of a go-ahead marker as Njie was blocked and Tshazi Kamau pinged the crossbar above Henrich at the 79:30 mark. The Red and White answered back with the final four shots of the match coming from Iwowo (3) and Weber, forcing two more stops out of Pinto including one with just 30-seconds left to secure the draw.
