ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Dickinson men's soccer team went in search of their first Centennial Conference win on Saturday afternoon at a very damp Muhlenberg College. Unfortunately, for the Red and White a 16th-minute tally by Zack Mikuta would standup as the winner for the Mules as the defending Centennial Conference champion picked up a 1-0 win at Varsity Field.
The home side had the Red and White on their heels early as they recorded five shots within the first dozen minutes, forcing two saves out of Devils keeper
Alexander Henrich. Dickinson finally worked their way into the attacking third and earned a corner with 15 minutes off the clock. The service would come in from
Finn Weber and eventually find
Cole Jennings who fired a shot to the left of Ben Mulford between the sticks. Unfortunately, for the visitors a foul on the ensuing possession led to a free kick sent in by Evan Schlotterbeck to the head of Taylan Akdag who got the ball over to Mikuta for the finish. DC went in search of an immediate response, but the header from
Ethan Jarden went wide right in the 19th. The next four shots belonged to the Mules with Henrich turning away Sebastian Tis twice.
Saul Iwowo and
Giorgio Gayleard attempted to equalize the match, but neither bothered Mulford. Muhlenberg put DC under duress the remaining ten-plus minutes of the have ripping five more shots, but only calling upon Henrich once.
To begin the second period it was Dickinson with the early opportunities as
Jackson Wolf, Jarden (2) and Weber all tallying shots within the opening eleven minutes, however once again none of the tested Mulford. In the 64th, another Weber corner would result in a offering from
Tyson Burling that went wide right. It would take until the 66th for the Mules to get any kind of offensive look as Chris Richards headed the ball off target. The hosts would hold Dickinson without another shot the rest of the match as the 90 minutes came to a conclusion at 1-0.
