CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson men's basketball team got a double-double from graduate student
Nate Ogbu and put on a defensive clinic limiting the visiting Haverford College Fords to shoot just 18.5% (10-54) from the floor en route to a comfortable 57-38 Centennial Conference win at the Kline Center on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Red and White have now moved into a tie with Ursinus College for the final postseason berth with only a few weeks to go.Â
The Red and White got off to a great start as three-balls from
Skyler Venezia and
Brandon Wiercinski coupled with jumpers for
Cole Cosby and Ogbu made it 10-0 just over three minutes in. The Fords responded with an 8-2 charge on buckets from Brandon Banadda, Ali Kaan Bek and Gaven Marr. A
David Petrusev free throw then kicked off a 9-2 run with
Isaiah Edmond supplying four points, while Ogbu put up a thunderous dunk off a feed from
Andrew Gostovich to make it 21-10 with 10:19 left. Six of the ensuing eight points went to the Fords as Logan Brown, Gabriel Franklin and Clay Killoren chipped the margin down to 23-16 with 14:33 gone. The remainder of the frame belonged to the Devils as a triple for Wiercinski kicked off a 7-0 stampede as Ogbu and Petrusev each added two foul shots to give DC a 30-16 halftime edge.Â
Dickinson continued their strong offensive performance to begin period two with
Randy Shephard scoring just 26-ticks in, which was followed by treys for Cosby (2) and Venezia to stretch the lead to 43-18 at the five minute mark. The two sides traded buckets over the ensuing five minutes with Venezia posting a dunk, Ogbu picking up a layup and Petrusev notching two on the stripe for a 49-23 advantage. Haverford tried to get back within striking distance as a triple from Marr and layup by Brown cut the deficit to 51-28, but then an "old-fashioned" three-point play for
Anthony Goeb put the lead right back at 26 (54-28) at the 14:00 minute mark. The Fords would end the game on a 10-3 run scoring all of their points at the foul line, while
Matt Mahoney delivered from downtown to set the 57-38 final.
