HAVERFORD, Pa. - The duo of
Isaiah Edmond and
Andrew Gostovich combined for six clutch free throws over the final two minutes of the game to turn a 48-45 deficit into a slim 51-50 Centennial Conference win over the host Haverford College Fords on Saturday afternoon at Gooding Arena.
The home side got off to a quick start with both Nick Klaiber and Gaven Marr each picking up three points in the opening five minutes, while
Nate Ogbu finished twice at the rim to make it 6-5. After two on the charity line for
Skyler Venezia, both Gabriel Franklin and Zach Perry delivered from deep to open up a 12-6 edge with 7:27 off the clock. Dickinson used the next seven minutes to go on a 10-0 with contributions coming out of the hands of
Cole Cosby,
Brandon Wiercinski, Edmond and Ogbu to jump ahead 16-12 with just over five minutes left. The two sides shared the ensuing eight points with Ogbu and Venezia chipping in for the Devils to make it 20-16. After a
Matt Mahoney jumper pushed it to 22-16, the hosts ended the half on a 5-0 sprint to cut the deficit down to just 22-21.
Buckets from Ogbu and Venezia were not enough to keep Dickinson in the lead early in half number two as three-balls by Franklin and Klaiber gave the Fords a slim 27-26 advantage. The visitors then used the following four-plus minutes to put together a 9-2 run on buckets for Edmond, Mahoney and culminating in a triple by Wiercinski to open up a 36-29 lead with 11:28 remaining. Nicholas Stewart brought the home team right back in the game by tallying five consecutive points to make it 36-34 at the halfway point of the period. A pair of free throws for Gostovich opened the gap up to four (38-34), but then the trio of Logan Brown, Franklin and Marr posted five in a row to reclaim a one-point edge (39-38) at the 12:08 mark. Dickinson took back the lead by racking up five of the next seven points with Ogbu knocking down three free throws and Edmond finishing off a driving layup to make it 43-41 with less than five minutes left. The Fords attempted to gain control of the game from that moment with Brown, Klaiber and Marr all scoring during a 7-2 charge to surge ahead 48-45 with just two minutes to play. Dickinson would draw even at 50-50 thanks to foul shots from Edmond and Gostovich, before Edmond knocked home one more at the 19:09 mark for a 51-50 edge. Haverford would have two more looks for a winning bucket, unfortunately the offerings from Franklin and Klaiber came up short allowing the Devils to escape with the win.
