No.19 Blue Jays Blank Devils in Charm City

BALTIMORE - Coming off a huge win last weekend over rival Gettysburg on Homecoming, the Dickinson football team attempted to carry that momentum into a big road conference matchup at Johns Hopkins University. Unfortunately, for the Red and White the offense was never able to get on track as the Blue Jays collected a 30-0 win at Homewood Field.

Template - 1st Quarter
  • A pair of passes to Kellen Boyer from Ben Klassen and a couple of runs for Dane Sorensen had DC on the JHU33 facing a 3rd-and-10. However, a sack by Will Seibert would then force Kieran O'Neill to punt giving the Jays the ball on their own 30 with about six minutes gone.
  • The ground combination of quarterback James Rinello and Andrew Rich advanced JHU to the DC42. Dickinson's defense stood tall over the next three plays leading to a touchback off the foot of punter Chase Alley.

  • Hopkins would begin the frame two plays into a drive with the ball resting on the JHU32. A run for Geoff Schroeder to the 45 set the stage for Rinello to find Robby Enright for a 55-yard TD (Brad Paxton kick).
  • Following a three-and-out for the Devils, the Jays started their next possession on their own 23. A trio of runs for Rich and a seven-yard completion to Cole Crotty had the home side sitting on the DC34. Eight of the next nine plays would be runs by either Rich, Rinello and Schroeder to move down to the DC9. That was when Rinello found Crotty for the score and a 14-0 edge (Paxton kick failed).
  • The ensuing Devils drive started with a one-yard carry for Sorensen, before coming to an abrupt end as Klassen lost the handle of the ball allowing Carson Bourdo to pick it up and race back 28-yards for the touchdown making it 20-0 (Paxton kick).
  • Neither team could break midfield the rest of the quarter as Ojoo Macapiyo, Jeremy Reid, Justin Rocha and Brendan Walker each posted a tackle for the visitors as the game went to the break at 20-0.
Template - 3rd Quarter
  • After Dickinson began the period with a failed onside kick the Jays were setup at the DC44. James Basilii, Alex Sulin and Walker all recorded a tackle to leave it fourth-and-two on the DC36. Rich would plunge forward for a yard, but was then met by Domani White and Basilii to cause a turnover on downs.
  • Presley Egbers went under center for the Devils for their opening possession and used connections through the air to Frederik Fjeldseth and Sorensen to get all the way down to the JHU9. However, the Red and White were turned away on fourth down to keep it at 20-0.
  • The Jays drive only lasted one play as Rinello scrambled for 18 yards, before Cole Catalano jarred the rock loose and fell on it. Unfortunately, despite two solid carries for Andrew Reale the Devils were denied on fourth when Egbers could not find Boyer.
  • Later in the frame with the Jays having a first down on their own 31 yardline, Catalano would break through the offensive line and throw Rinello for a loss of six. During that play Rinello put the ball on the turf leading to Sam Orzolek falling on it.
Template - 4th Quarter
  • Four rushes and a completion to Crotty had the Jays starting the frame at the JHU45. Passes by Rinello to EJ Talarico and Crotty moved the ball to the DC12, which set the stage for a 29-yard Paxton field goal extending it to 23-0.
  • Following a DC punt on the ensuing drive which was brought back to the DC5, Rich would tote the rock twice to push it across the line for the 30-0 final (Paxton kick).
