SELINSGROVE, Pa. - The Dickinson College men's track and field team took on some tough competition at Susquehanna University's Early Season Multi and Invitational inside the Robert I. Estill Field House. Despite the large field the Red Devils were able to leave with multiple first-place and Top-10 finishes.
Sprints
William O'Connor was the only member of the Red and White to appear in the 60m, clocking in at 7.43 for 26th.
Franklyn Akabi-During had a solid race during the 200m hitting the line at 22.55 for second. The trio of Jason Hollinger, O'Connor and Ian Gormley occupied 26th (24.13), 28th (24.21) and 33rd (24.55). Tim Gross was the final Devil involved in the event with a time of 26.02.
Gormley finished off the Top-5 for the 400m hitting the line in 53.04. Sean Harris also grabbed a Top-20 slot taking 19th with a 56.48, while Ben Dench and Gross earned 22nd (57.84) and 27th (59.15).
Distance
The 800m was packed with Dickinson runners as 13 members went to the track. Two of them landed within the Top-5 with Trevor Richwine winning the event at 1:57.26, while Nathan Caldwell nabbed fourth (2:04.18). Atticus Fair and Amos Liles had strong runs as well posting finishes of ninth (2:06.94) and 14th (2:09.67) respectively. Mason Macek (15th - 2:09.95), Alexander Kane (16th - 2:10.95), Alex Hansen (17th - 2:11.30), Matthew Colden (20th - 2:15.63), Matthew Dietrick (22nd - 2:15.85), Tyler Erdmann (23rd - 2:16.15), Luke Knestout (24th - 2:16.24), Eddie Liszka (26th - 2:16.92) and William Kane (28th - 2:21.31) all competed as well.
Dickinson collected their second victory of the day during the mile run with Caldwell winning the race at 4:32.62. The group of Fair (4:39.11), Hansen (4:48.48) and Andrew Edwards ran together occupying slots five through seven, while Colden completed the Top-10 with a 4:56.40. The pair of Jake Cruikshank and Jack Solovey posted times of 5:05.38 (15th) and 5:18.94 (16th).
The Red and White continued their dominance at the distance events by nabbing six of the first seven finishes for the 3000m. The quartet of A. Kane (8:55.31), Macek (9:04.69), Nolan Meincke (9:04.70) and Knestout (9:07.15) held down places one through four. The duo of Dietrick and Liszka nabbed sixth (9:11.72) and seventh (9:13.90). Two other Devils competed as W. Kane and Joel Yetzbacher posted marks of 9:45.56 and 10:03.16.
Relays
Dickinson then submitted four teams for the 4x400m with the unit of Akabi-During, Gormley, Meincke and Richwine winning the event with a 3:34.83. Sean Harris, Fair, Hansen and A. Kane nabbed sixth at 3:50.19, while Caldwell, Cruikshank, Feldman and Gross taking seventh (3:53.66). The last group of Travis Knaggs, Colden, Edwards and Erdmann landed in ninth (4:18.61).
Special
Penny competed in the heptathlon and claimed 15th accumulating 2777 points.
Field
Oliver Stroka finished off the podium for the weight throw with a toss of 14.97m. He then tried his luck with the shot put and took 20th (9.71m).
Kieran Santos posted a ninth-place result for the high jump clearing 1.77m. At the jump pit, Hollinger earned seventh in the long jump after dropping in at 6.11m.
Next on the Track
The Red Devils now enjoy a month-long break before coming back to the track on January 18th at the Cardinal Track and Field Classic hosted by Catholic University starting at 10am.
