Devils Need OT to Take Down Bearcats at Steel Club Classic

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - For the second time this season the Dickinson men's basketball team lined up across from the Baruch College Bearcats and once again a tightly contested game came down to the wire as the Red and White prevailed 84-82 in overtime on Day One of the Steel Club Classic hosted by Moravian University inside of Johnston Hall. 
Template - 1st Half
  • The two teams traded blows over the opening seven minutes as the score was tied at 12-12 with DC points coming from Cole Cosby, David Petrusev and Juan Ruiz.
  • Baruch then embarked on a 14-2 outburst ending on a jumper by Gerard Nicholson to make it 26-14 inside the final ten minutes.
  • Cosby responded by collecting seven of the next eight points to pull within 27-21 with 7:14 left.
  • Four points for Brandon Goldberg surrounded a layup by Joey Dopirak to leave the score at 31-23.
  • Ryan Leskauskas stuck a shot from deep, followed by contributions from Isaiah Edmond and Dopirak during an 8-2 DC run to close the half and leave the Red and White behind by just one 35-34.

  • Dickinson would grab a 38-35 advantage just 1:33 in thanks to two points each from Cosby and Edmond.
  • The Bearcats came rallying back as buckets from Jack Gordon, Dylan Minnick, Luke Reese and Goldberg made it 44-43 BC with 14:39 left.
  • A layup for Petrusev off a dish from Leskauskas stalled the push, but Trevon Coppin, Goldberg, Minnick and Nicholson responded with ten of the ensuing dozen to grab a seven-point cushion (54-47) still with 12:04 to go.
  • Over the next four minutes triples for Matt Mahoney and Leskauskas along with some help from Dopirak cut the deficit to 58-56 (8:26).
  • Goldberg accounted for five of the next seven BC points to help the Cats open up a 65-60 advantage at the 14:59 mark.
  • Dickinson's next six points came at the charity line with as Dopirak, Edmond and Leskauskas each knocked down two making it 67-66 BC.
  • Three foul shots for Goldberg pushed the gap to four (70-66), but layups by Petrusev and then Edmond with four ticks left forced the extra session. 
  • Baruch started the frame strong as Coppin and Nicholson went on an 8-5 push over the opening two-plus minutes. 
  • Leskauskas answered with a pair of triples and Cosby cashed from inside the paint to give DC an 83-80 lead with 22-seconds to go.
  • A Minnick layup up made it 83-82 with a dozen seconds left, but Dopirak split two on the line to set the 84-82 finish.

  • Dickinson (4-5) will return to action tomorrow night at 5:30pm when they battle the host Moravian University Greyhounds in the Championship Game of the Steel Club Classic. Moravian advanced to the title game by knocking off FDU-Florham 99-63 earlier in the day.
