Devils Open Up Indoor Campaign With Win at Shenandoah

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Dickinson women's indoor track and field started their 2024-25 indoor campaign with a bang on Sunday afternoon by winning the Shenandoah University Holiday Kickoff for the second consecutive year inside the James Wilkins Jr. Athletics & Events Center.

Sprints
Erin Olsavsky earned third-place in the 60m with a time of 8.01. Annie Leder was inside the Top-10 as well claiming ninth (8.26). Three other members of the Red and White did battle with Emily Chaine, Maddie Kyle and Catarina Acosta collecting 15th (8.39), 16th (8.59) and 24th (8.97). With hurdles added to the mix Leah Biwott nabbing fifth thanks to a 9.78, while Lily Cusa finished in 14th (10.81).

Olsavsky led a massive group of Devils during the 200m as she landed in third with a 26.59, followed by Chaine in tenth (27.81). The trio of Abbe Kitchin, Maddie Brown and Kyle placed within the Top-20 as well taking 13th (27.94), 15th (28.31) and 20th (29.04). Lily Swain (29.73), Cusa (29.84), Morgan Mooradian (30.30) and Emma Dice (31.44) all competed as well.

Brown was inches away from the title in the 400m, but ultimately had to settle for second thanks to a time of 1:02.43. She was joined in the Top-5 by Kitchin with her 1:03.47. Swain fell outside the Top-10 in 13th (1:05.62), followed by Cusa and Dice in 17th (1:07.98) and 18th (1:09.98) respectively. Mooradian earned 21st by hitting the line at 1:10.36.

Distance
Marley Kurey was strong in her first outing of the season claiming second for the 800m clocking in at 2:31.54. The duo of Devon Culberson and Leah Bell finished in 11th (2:43.67) and 13th (2:55.71).

Sophia Kovalski grabbed seventh during the 3000m with an 11:19.93. The trio of Lauren Scott (12:17.12), Rebecca Roberts (12:20.04) and Ellie Drescher (12:55.45) ran together claiming 14th through 16th.

The Red and White found a victory in the 5000m courtesy of Myra Naqvi who hit the stripe at 18:43.06 to win by nearly two minutes. Her teammates Jenna Kerns and Emma Lewis nabbed fourth (20:46.74) and sixth (22:01.93).

Amiyah Priebe claimed the second Devils win during the mile run by clocking in at 5:15.10, while Elizabeth Barbash landed in third with a 5:29.54. Abby Duffy and Culberson rounded out the Top-10 with times of 5:52.40 and 5:55.61. Bell seized 15th hitting the line in 6:32.66.

Relays
Three Dickinson teams took part in the 4x400m with the unit of Brown, Kitchin, Kurey and Priebe picking up the win at 4:16.84, followed two places later by Biwott, Chaine, Naqvi and Olsavsky with a 4:18.88. The remaining unit of Barbash, Dice, Duffy and Kerns clocked in at 4:58.20 for ninth.

Field
The Red and White sent five athletes to the throwing area for the shot put. Jenna Deep led the group with a seventh-place finish dropping in at 10.45m. Just outside the Top-10 was Damien Labrada with a toss of 10.15m being good for 12th. Sarah Glickson (8.07m), Biwott (7.78m) and Acosta (5.27m) all took part in the event as well. During the weight throw Labrada and Deep finished fifth and sixth after heaves of 13.15m and 12.80m respectively. Glickson claimed 24th thanks to a 9.48m mark, while Acosta secured 28th (7.21m.).

At the jump pit, Leder was the victor in the long jump landing at 5.10m. Kyle took part in the event as well putting her feet down at 4.18m for 14th. Leder went back to the pit for the triple jump and seized second (10.20m). Two DC athletes were involved in the high jump with Biwott clearing 1.35m for fifth and Mooradian getting over 1.30m to nab sixth.

Swain and Lexi Borecki competed in the pole vault and finished in fourth (2.75m) and fifth (2.75m) respectively.

Team Scores
The Red and White claimed victory with 131 points followed by, Columbia (S.C.) (91), Washington & Lee (86), Roanoke and Shenandoah (75), Eastern Mennonite (50), McDaniel (37), Randolph (24), Mary Baldwin (14), Lynchburg (8) and Stevenson (7).

Next on the Track
Dickinson returns to action next Friday and Saturday at the Susquehanna University Early Season Invite in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania. The action begins Friday at 4pm, before resuming on Saturday morning at 9am.
