Devils Get Back on Track Against Scrappy Diplomats

LANCASTER, Pa. – Coming off a tough three-game stretch last week the Dickinson women's basketball team was in search of a complete effort on Wednesday night as they made the short drive over to Franklin and Marshall College for a Centennial Conference clash. That was exactly what the Red and White would produce in front of a large crowd at the Mayser Center as Caitlin Blackman, Lindsey Hollenshead and Clair Marion each dropped double-digits to help Dickinson secure a 59-50 win over the Diplomats.

Two early layups by Abby John had the visitors out to a 4-3 lead with just over two minutes gone. After Caitlin Blackman and Ally Trebelev traded buckets, five more points for Blackman and a put-back from Lindsey Hollenshead opened a 13-5 edge for DC at the 6:17 mark. The home side would record the final four points of the frame through baskets by Lizzie Neville and Gia Sioutis to make it 13-9 after one.

Dickinson claimed four of the first six points of the second as Victoria Zerbe and Hollenshead surrounded a layup for Jaclyn Feit pushing the margin to six (17-11). After Clair Marion secured her first points of the contest with a layup off a dish from Blackman, Quinn Galligan took advantage of the "and-one" opportunity to cut the deficit to 19-14. Tough finishes in the lane by both Clare Cronley along with Hollenshead stretched the gap to 23-16 with half of the period to go. Hollenshead and Neville would each split a pair at the charity line to cap the scoring at 24-17 heading into the break.

Coming out of the locker room Trebelev and Zerbe exchanged layups, before the teams combined to miss the next eight shots until Hollenshead setup Marion for the finish making it 28-19 with three minutes elapsed. A triple out of the hands of Blackman an a layup by Hollenshead helped the Devils to take a double-digit lead 33-22 with 6:09 off the clock. Sioutis then split a pair on the line trimming it to 33-23, but an immediate answer from Marion pushed it back to a dozen (35-23). However, the quartet of Feit, Neville, Sioutis and Trebelev responded in a big way using a 10-0 outburst to pull within 35-33. A jumper by Hollenshead stopped the run just prior to the end of the quarter giving the Red and White a 37-33 advantage through three.

To open the fourth F&M was feeling good as Feit and Galligan knotted the score at 39 with 2:03 gone. Dickinson then racked up the next eleven on treys by Blackman and Marion, in addition to contributions from John and Weinstein to reclaim a 50-39 advantage with just under four minutes left prompting a Diplomat timeout. The brief rest seemed to spark the home side as Hope Schreiber, Feit and Neville tallied eight of the next ten to cut the deficit to 52-47. However, a Marion triple stunted the charge for a second, until Feit went back the other way and stuck a three of her own to leave the score at 55-50 with 23-seconds left. From there the Devils were able to salt the game away at the line with Blackman and Hollenshead each knocking down two to seal the 59-50 win.
