Devils Break Multiple Records on Day One of CC Championships

Lancaster, PA – During their first day of the Centennial Conference Track and Field meet at Schnader Field House on the campus of Franklin & Marshall College. The Dickinson women's indoor track & field team landed a total of 52 points, which places them in second place behind Johns Hopkins (102 pts). On the day the Red and White earned three new school records as well as setting one new Centennial Conference and meet record.

Sprints
Today, both the sprints and hurdles executed the preliminary races before the final races tomorrow. In doing these preliminary races, the Conference thins the race down to the top eight [8] runners from the numerous racers they had qualified to run. In the 60m prelims, Sara Penuela and Mariana Penuela are bound to run in the finals tomorrow. M. Penuela ran 8.07s for 7th place while S. Penuela ran 7.88s for 2nd. Sara's time broke the previous school record. Four other Devils had run in the 60m prelims: Eliza Gichner timed in at 8.74s (27th); Naomi Alperin ran 8.64s (25th); Abbe Kitchin found herself running 8.46s (20th); Maddie Kyle ran 8.45s (19th).

Alperin, along with Sylvie McMaken-Marsh, Sophia Kovatsis, and Darya Mikusova, attempted the 60m hurdles prelims race. McMaken-Marsh placed 10th (11.55s) and Alperin came to 9th (10.06s). In the top eight [8] are Kovatsis (6th; 9.69s) and Mikusova (5th; 9.33s).

Distance
The trio of Breanna Franchak, Meghan Higgins-Haas, and Sammy Jo Barnes completed the 5000m run. All the women set a personal record, meaning they have beat their lifetime best time in the event. Franchak ran 20:25.96 (26th); Higgins-Hass clocked in at 19:49.90 (18th); Barnes found point-scoring 6th place with a time of 18:34.76 minutes.

Relays
Four Red Devils competed in the DMR [Distance Melody Relay]: Charlotte Kratovil-Lavelle, Madie Brown, Myra Naqvi, Amiyah Priebe, ran a time of 12:16.46 to win the event and earn 10 points.

The Red and White continued a strong start to the relays with a second-place finish in the 4x800m thanks to the team of Marley Kurey, Kratovil-Lavelle, Naqvi, and Priebe. They forged a great team that ran a second-place finish of 9:42.90 to collect eight [8] points.

Mikusova, S. Penuela, M. Penuela, and Emerlee Simons created the cohort that ran the 4x200m relay. Together, they achieved a first-place win, a new Centennial Conference, meet, and school record with an impressive time of 1:43.59 minutes.

Field
In the weight throw, the women scored a total of nine [9] points. Damien Labrada and Claire Shearer ended in 15th (11.34m) and 14th (11.43m) respectively. Jenna Deep landed in 6th place, earning three [3] points with a throw of 13.65m. Abby Everett earned six [6] points by throwing a third-place distance of 14.42m, which also established a new school record in the event.

Further, McMaken-Marsh launched herself 2.56m to earn 13th place in the pole vault. While Annie Leder sprang forward 9.84m (17th) in the triple jump.

Two Devils, Kovatsis and Leah Biwott, excellently performed in the pentathlon, which is complied of shot put; the 800m run; high jump; 60m hurdles; long jump. The score calculated based upon how everyone performed in the five events in terms of both placing and in time/distance. Biwott claimed 5th place with a point total of 2,517 points, while her teammate Kovatsis achieved 2nd place—and nine [9] points—with a new school record point total of 2,730 points.

Next on the Docket 
The Devils continue their Conference meet tomorrow, Sunday, February 25th at Franklin and Marshall College starting at 11am.
