LANCASTER, Pa. - For the second straight year and the third time in the past four years the Dickinson women's indoor track and field team claimed second-place at the Centennial Conference Championship meet hosted by Franklin & Marshall College inside of Schnader Field House.
Sprints
After qualifying on Saturday for the final of the 60m,
Sara Penuela posted a personal best time of 7.91 to finish third picking up six points, while her sister
Mariana Penuela claimed two more points by hitting the line in 8.11 (personal best).
Then, once hurdles were added to the mix
Sophia Kovatsis clocked in at 9.68 for fifth (four points), followed by
Darya Mikusova in eighth (10.14) to add one more point to the ledger.Â
A trio of Devils laid down scoring times in the 200m as
Emerlee Simons hit the line in 26.18 for second (eight points), S. Penuela got to the stripe at 26.25 (five points) and M. Penuela rounded out the scorers thanks to a seventh-place finish in 26.73 collecting two more points.
Maddie Kyle landed in 14th with a 28.18.
During the 400m a pair of DC athletes earned podium spots with Simons taking second (58.50), followed by Mikusova in third (58.82) as the two combined for 14 points.
Maddie Brown rounded out the Top-15 with a 1:03.18, while
Evelyn Swayze and
Abbe Kitchin found themselves in 18th (1:04.16) and 19th (1:04.89) respectively.
Distance
Marley Kurey was the lone member of the Red and White to compete in the 800m claiming 15th at 2:31.99.
The duo of
Amiyah Priebe (5th - 5:12.40) and
Myra Naqvi (8th - 5:14.88) joined up for five points during the mile run, while
Charlotte Kratovil-Lavelle picked up a ninth-place finish in 5:18.31.
In the 3000m, Priebe grabbed two points with a seventh-place result thanks to a 10:32.54. Three more Devils fell inside the Top-15 as Naqvi fell in 11th (10:42.52), Kratovil-Lavelle taking 13th (10:47.25) and
Sammy Jo Barnes laying down a personal-best time of 10:47.27 for 14th.
Meghan Higgins-Haas rounded out the competing DC athletes in 25th (11:37.67).
Relays
The Red and White continued to score during the 4x400m as the team of Mikusova, M. Penuela, S. Penuela and Simons nabbing eight points and second-place thanks to a 4:02.08.
Field
Three Devils found Top-10 places in the shot put with
Abby Everett and
Claire Shearer taking up sixth (11.63m) and seventh (11.05m) to combine for five points, while
Damien Labrada finished off the trio in tenth at 10.61m. Two other athletes were in Top-20 with
Jenna Deep grabbing 12th (10.12m) and Kovatsis nabbing 19th (9.23m).Â
S. Penuela found her way to the podium for the long jump as her leap of 5.59m took second (eight points), followed by M. Penuela in fourth (five points) at 5.28m for a personal best.
Annie Leder also fell within the Top-10 in ninth with a 5.05m.
Leah Biwott (17th - 4.63m) and
Kayleigh Vitu (26th - 4.23m) were also involved in the event.Â
Morgan Mooradian finished tenth during the high jump by clearing 1.42m.
Team Scores
The Red and White amassed 127 points over the two days for second, falling behind only Johns Hopkins at 311. The rest of the standings were: Swarthmore (60.5), Ursinus (57), Gettysburg (42), Haverford (39.5), McDaniel (36), Muhlenberg (28), Franklin & Marshall (27) and Bryn Mawr (13).
Next on the Docket
Dickinson will now take a much needed rest for a few weeks until they kickoff the outdoor season on Saturday, March 23rd at the Little Three Championships hosted by Franklin & Marshall College beginning at 10am.
