NEW YORK - The Dickinson women's indoor track and field team broke multiple school records on Friday night as the Red and White posted a huge showing at the New York University DIII Invitational inside the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory.
Sprints
In the 60m,
Sara Penuela claimed fifth with a time of eight seconds even. Her sister
Mariana Penuela nabbed 17th at 8.29 and
Abbe Kitchin clocked in at 8.73 for 34th. When hurdles were added to the 60m
Naomi Alperin took to the track and claimed 18th (10.37).
A trio of Devils were involved during the 200m, as Kitchin led the group with a 28.69 (42nd), followed by Alperin in 46th (29.20) and Madison Brown at 29.40 (49th).
The first school record to go down came in the 400m when
Darya Mikusova hit the line in 59.15 for second-place breaking the previous mark of 59.32 set on February 1st, 2014. Brown also was on the track for the race posting a 1:05.40 for 31st.
Distance
Charlotte Kratovil-Lavelle made her first appearance of the meet during the 800m claiming 15th with a time of 2:26.88, while
Marley Kurey stopped the timer at 2:34.80 (26th).
Two Dickinson athletes found Top-10 times for the mile run with
Amiyah Priebe landing in fourth (5:04.16) and Kratovil-Lavelle getting to the stripe in 5:20.23 for ninth.
Myra Naqvi and
Sammy Jo Barnes competed in their first event of the night during the 3000m occupying seventh (10:32.50) and 15th (11:06.02) respectively.
Relay
The second record to drop came in the 4x400m as the unit of Kurey, Mikusova and the Penuela sisters clocked in at 4:02.98 to claim third, busting the previous mark of 4:06.47 set on February 27th, 2022. The other Devils team made up of Barnes, Kratovil-Lavelle, Naqvi and Priebe landed in 13th (4:23.06).Â
Field
Abby Everett added her name to the record books in the shot put when her toss of 12.33m knocked down the old title of 11.96m by Iva Liou during the 2005 season.
Jenna Deep was also in the event posting a 9.66m (23rd). The same two ladies were involved in the weight throw with Deep claiming fourth (14.01m), while Everett nabbed sixth (13.96m).
At the jump pit, S. Penuela bested the 30-competitor field for the long jump with a leap of 5.32m. Five places later in sixth was her sister Mariana with her 5.06m.Â
Next on the Track
Dickinson will send a group of athletes to Reading tomorrow morning for the 2024 Plex Shootout on the campus of Alvernia University. The action begins at 9am.
