LANCASTER, Pa. - The Dickinson women's indoor track and field team had a solid Friday evening competing at the Blue & White Invitational hosted Franklin and Marshall College as the Devils collected five wins inside the Alumni Sports & Fitness Center.
Sprints
Three Dickinson athletes secured a Top-20 finish for the 60m as
Abbe Kitchin led the trio in 16th at 8.60, followed right behind in 17th by
Naomi Alperin (8.65) and Madison Brown (20th - 8.77).
Eliza Gichner rounded out the competing Devils with a time of 8.79 for 21st. When the hurdles were added to the event
Darya Mikusova along with
Sophia Kovatsis earned Top-10 results grabbing fourth (9.64) and eighth (10.11). Three other DC athletes were involved in the event as Alperin (15th - 10.38),
Leah Biwott (18th - 10.71) and
Sylvie McMaken-Marsh (20th - 10.84).
The first victory for the Red and White occurred in the 200m thanks to
Emerlee Simons who hit the line in 26.15. Kitchen as well as Brown did battle in the race taking up 17th (29.12) and 20th (29.43).
Win number two came thanks to Mikusova during the 400m as she posted a 59.75, while teammates
Marley Kurey and
Kayleigh Vitu clocked in at 1:04.52 (11th) and 1:07.97 (24th) respectively.
Distance
A pair of Devils took to the track for the 800m where
Myra Naqvi collected another DC triumph by hitting the line in 2:22.99, followed by Kurey in 12th at 2:34.30.
Two of the three podium spots for the mile run were claimed by Dickinson competitors as
Charlotte Kratovil-Lavelle grabbed second (5:20.01), while Naqvi nabbed third (5:23.68).
Amiyah Priebe made her first appearance of the meet count as she laid claim to the title for the 3000m with a time of 10:22.61. Kratovil-Lavelle fell just outside the Top-3 in fourth (11:03.33) and
Breanna Franchak clocked in at 11:48.18 (11th).
In the 5000m,
Sammy Jo Barnes finished second thanks to her 18:54.63.
Relays
Two teams of Devils were in the field for the 4x400m with the "A" squad nabbing the title in 4:09.44, followed by the "B" unit two places back in third (4:26.15).
Field
At the jump pit, Biwott cleared 1.32m during the high jump to finish in a two-way tie for 14th with Ashley Alfree of Juniata College. The long jump saw three Devils compete with
Mariana Penuela claiming sixth with a 4.84m, while Kovatsis and Vitu grabbed 16th (4.28m) and 19th (4.19m).
McMaken-Marsh was the lone DC athlete for the pole vault and she collected 11th by clearing a height of 2.53m.
Damien Labrada rounded out the Top-5 for the shot put with a toss of 10.98m. Kovatsis also earned a Top-20 place finishing in 15th thanks to a 9.76, followed by Biwott at 6.59m (38th). Labrada secured 14th during the weight throw by chucking the object 11.57m.
Next on the Track
The Red and White get back to action next Saturday, February 17th at 9am when they head to Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania for the SU Tune Up at Susquehanna University.
