Devils Take Third at York Twilight Meet

YORK, Pa. - The Dickinson women's track and field team was strong on Wednesday at the York College Twilight Meet on Graham Field collecting two wins and numerous Top-10 finishes. In the team scoring the Red and White took third out of a dozen competing teams.

Sprints
Two Devils took to the track for the 100m with Maddie Kyle grabbing 18th (13.58), followed by Eliza Gichner in 28th (14.34). When hurdles were added to that distance three members of the Red and White were involved as Sophia Kovatsis rounded out the Top-5 with a time of 16.60. She was joined in the Top-10 by Darya Mikusova in ninth (17.19), while Naomi Alperin clocked in at 17.80 for 11th.

A host of Dickinson athletes competed in the 200m with Emerlee Simons nabbing ninth at 27.03. The trio of Kyle, Maddie Brown and Abbe Kitchin secured places inside the Top-20 claiming 17th (28.20), 19th (28.38) and 20th (28.39). Gichner and Kaleigh Vitu posted times of 29.16 (36th) and 30.21 (40th). 

The Red and White had three members within the Top-10 for the 400m as Simons took fourth (59.68), Brown claimed eighth (1:02.59) and Kitchin fell in tenth (1:03.81). Vitu hit the line in 1:09.13 for 27th. It was a victory for the Devils in the 400m hurdles when Mikusova bested the competition by over seven seconds with her 1:02.64.

Distance
A duo of DC athletes went to the track for the 800m with Marley Kurey claiming 16th at 2:36.70, while Leah Bell clocked in at 2:49.96 for 34th. The same pair then went to the battle in the 1500m as Kurey grabbed sixth (5:27.13) and Bell took 16th (6:01.15). 

Two of the three podium spots in the 5000m belonged to the Devils as Amiyah Priebe earned the title with a 17:50.88, followed two places back by Myra Naqvi (18:06.53). Meghan Higgins-Haas also nabbed a Top-10 slot landing in seventh (18:59.79). Breanna Franchak was just off the Top-20 stopping the clock in 19:38.43 for 22nd.

Relays
The Red and White won the 4x400m thanks to the unit of Brown, Kitchin, Mikusova and Simons posting a time of 4:12.29, while the 4x800m unit with Sammy Jo Barnes, Charlotte Kratovil-Lavelle, Naqvi and Priebe taking second at 11:11.06.

Field
At the shot put area, Abby Everett gave a strong showing collecting second with a toss of 12.06m. Claire Shearer was just outside the Top-10 in 11th thanks to a 10.23m. Jenna Deep was the lone DC athlete for the discus posting a throw of 24.19m to round out the Top-20. She was also the only Devil for the javelin claiming 21st (23.10m). The same trio then did battle in the hammer throw with Deep (40.61m) edging out Everett (40.06m) for third. Shearer finished in 14th (33.40m). 

In the jump pit, Kovatsis posted a 14th-place finish for the high jump clearing a height of 1.35m. Vitu went to work in the long jump dropping in at 4.10m for 19th. 

Team Scores
Division I Saint Francis University (Pa.) and Division II Shippensburg University took up one and two with 151.5 and 127 points respectively. Dickinson was the first Division III team in the standings with 78 points, followed in the Top-10 by Lebanon Valley (67), Elizabethtown (63), Susquehanna (57.5), Messiah (49.5), York (Pa.) (42), Alvernia (39), Albright (10.5). 

On the Docket
The Red and White will return to action on Saturday, April 6th in Allentown, Pennsylvania at the Muhlenberg College Invitational beginning at 10am.
