CARLISLE, Pa. – Dickinson women's lacrosse senior attacker
Emma Wynne racked up a career-high eight points on four goals and four assists as the Red and White collected a massive 18-14 Centennial Conference win over the visiting McDaniel College Green Terror at Biddle Field on Wednesday afternoon.
The side was on the attack early as
Bella Guckes hit the post behind Caleigh Kohr just 41-seconds in, before she found the net with 13:35 to go off a nice dish by
Abby Geary. Two minutes later Wynne stripped the ball from Michaela Reid leading to her finding
Delaney Herbert for the 2-0 edge. McDaniel then responded by recording six of the next seven shots with three ending up behind DC goalie
Peyton VanDorpe, while Geary notched one more for the home side to lock it up 3-3 with 7:45 gone. Tallies from both Wynne and Herbert (Guckes assist) gave the Devils a 5-3 advantage, before Kat Thayer picked up the final goal of the period to cut it down to 5-4 after one.
The first three minutes of the second period saw Geary be denied by Kohr, before a groundball pickup for
Mia Seergae led to the rock ending up in the stick of Herbert who hit
Sage Whiteside for the goal. McDaniel attempted to answer back taking three of the ensuing four shots, but VanDorpe made two stops resulting in
Izzy Hall getting out in transition to find Geary for the Devils seventh of the day with 7:12 left. That seemed to wake up the visitors as they collected the next three goals thanks to two for Emma Legacy and one by Thayer to level the game again at 7-7 going into the break.
A late green card in the second against McDaniel led to Dickinson starting with the rock without a draw control allowing Wynne to find Guckes for a power play marker to reclaim an 8-7. However, over the course of the next two minutes Emma Carpenter and Thayer scored to push the guests ahead 9-8 with 11:58 left. That led to
Ella Marks taking over between the pipes for VanDorpe and prior to her even seeing a shot fired her way Wynne had the game tied at 9-9 three minutes later. Dickinson attempted to regain the advantage when Herbert hit a pair of posts, which ultimately led to Lagacy solving Marks for the 10-9 edge. The final four minutes of the frame was packed with goals as the Red and White scored four of the final five goals thanks to Guckes (2), Geary and Wynne to hold a 13-11 advantage heading to the fourth.
The Devils needed just ten seconds into the fourth to find the net once again when Whiteside won the draw and hit Wynne for the finish. Two minutes later
Syd MacKeigan became another recipient of a Wynne assist as she grabbed her first goal of the day making it 15-11 leading to a McDaniel timeout. Each keeper recorded a stop over the next couple of minutes with Marks shutting down Miller, while Kohr turned away Herbert on a free-position shot. Delany Turner finally ended a five-goal Devil run with 9:37 left, but then consecutive tallies by
Faith Parker opened the margin back out to 17-12. After McDaniel, pulled two back (17-14), Dickinson finished the game with one more marker from Geary to set the 18-14 result.
