SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Dickinson women's track and field team had quite a successful Wednesday night at the Shippensburg University Mid-Week Invite as they set two school records and won a pair of events on the night.
Sprints
Sara Penuela was the first Division III athlete to complete the 100m landing in fifth at 12.22. Three other members of the Red and White took part in the event with
Naomi Alperin taking 26th (13.51),
Eliza Gichner nabbing 29th (13.94) and
Catarina Acosta finishing off the group in 33rd (14.49). When hurdles were added to that distance
Darya Mikusova claimed third by breaking the school record with a 14.61, while Alperin finished eighth (16.66).
A huge contingent of the Devils were involved in the 200m with the group of
Sara Penuela (3rd – 25.34), Mikusova (5th – 26.03),
Emerlee Simons (6th – 26.05) and
Mariana Penuela (9th – 26.40) all earning Top-10 results. The rest of the mass of DC athletes was made up of
Maddie Brown (26th – 27.85),
Abbe Kitchin (29th – 28.15),
Evelyn Swayze (30th – 28.17), Gichner (36th – 28.93), Alperin (39th – 29.61),
Kayleigh Vitu (43rd – 29.98) and Acosta (45th – 30.85).
Abbe Kitchin represented Dickinson in the 400m claiming ninth with a time of 1:02.76.
Distance
A Devil duo went to work in the 800m with
Charlotte Kratovil-Lavelle and
Marley Kurey each picking up Top-10 results landing in fifth (2:26.30) and eighth (2:27.81).
The 1500m saw
Amiyah Priebe,
Meghan Higgins-Haas and
Sammy Jo Barnes all earn Top-10 placing first (4:44.98), seventh (5:02.75) and ninth (5:12.93) respectively.
Breanna Franchak did battle as well taking 14th (5:48.45).
Special
The 3000m steeplechase saw Kratovil-Lavelle grab the top spot by hitting the line in 11:20.07.
Relays
In the 4x100m, the unit of
Mariana Penuela,
Emerlee Simons, Mikusova and S. Penuela posted a first-place finish with a time of 48.15. The team of
Myra Naqvi, Kratovil-Lavelle, Kurey and Priebe nabbed second for the 4x400m after hitting the line in 4:07.10.
Field
Jenna Deep and
Damien Labrada competed in the hammer throw and nabbed places eighth (42.39m) and 24th (32.83m). At the shot put fan, the duo of Labrada and Deep occupied 11th (10.42m) and 12th (10.18m), while
Sophia Kovatsis nailed down 16th (9.53m). Labrada rounded out the Top-20 for the discus with a heave of 30.11m, followed by Deep at 27.40 for 26th. Kovatsis then edged out Deep in the javelin taking up 24th (23.86m) to her teammates 25th (22.76m).
At the jump pit the Penuela sisters racked up Top-10 results for the long jump with Sara claiming third at 5.58m, while Mariana secured sixth (5.35m).
On the Docket
Dickinson is back to work this Friday and Saturday at the Coach Pollard Invite hosted by Moravian University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
