BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Dickinson women's track and field broke a pair of facility records and had multiple Top-15 finishes on the day as they took part in the Coach Pollard Invitational at Moravian University.
Sprints
In the 100m,
Sara Penuela finished off the Top-5 with a time of 12.24, while her sister
Mariana Penuela nailed down 13th in 12.84.
Abbe Kitchin and
Eliza Gichner finished the event in 26th (13.44) and 32nd (13.71).
Catarina Acosta also competed grabbing 43rd (14.67). With hurdles added to that distance a pair of Red Devils earned Top-8 results as
Darya Mikusova won the race with a time of 14.48, followed by
Sophia Kovatsis in eighth at 16.18. Three other teammates were involved in the event with
Leah Biwott,
Naomi Alperin and
Sylvie McMaken-Marsh claiming 11th (16.57), 12th (16.77) and 22nd (17.89) respectively.
Maddie Brown was the first DC member to cross the line in the 200m posting a time of 27.64. Gichner and Alperin ran right with each other grabbing 34th (28.51) and 35th (28.76).
Kayleigh Vitu hit the stripe at 29.10 for 37th, while Acosta claimed 46th (30.90).
Five Devils went to the track for the 400m with
Emerlee Simons pacing the group in fourth (58.51), followed by Biwott (13th – 1:02.04), Brown (14th – 1:02.12), Kitchin (19th – 1:02.77) and
Morgan Mooradian (29th – 1:06.09). When hurdles were put in front of the athletes at that distance Mikusova made her mark on the meet as a whole by breaking the previous facility record by over a second with a time of 1:01.12, which was also good to win the race.
Distance
Amiyah Priebe earned a Top-5 result in the 800m as her time of 2:23.39 was good for fourth. The duo of
Marley Kurey and
Leah Bell were also involved taking up 22nd (2:30.54) and 35th (2:52.54).
Bell was the lone Devil to compete during the 1500m posting a time of 5:52.55 for 31st.
Special
Priebe became the second member of the Red and White to break a track record on the day as she crossed the line in 10:58.68 to win the 3000m steeplechase and shatter the previous record of 11:29.55 set back in 2010.
Relays
Dickinson put two teams in the 4x400m with the one unit of Mikusova, M. Penuela, S. Penuela and Simons clocking in at 3:56.99 to claim second just behind Division II Kutztown (3:55.99), while the other group of
Meghan Higgins-Haas, Bell, Kurey and Vitu claimed 13th (4:32.48).
Field
A duo of Devils were involved in the hammer throw with
Jenna Deep taking up seventh with a toss of 40.46m, followed by
Damien Labrada in 24th (31.96m). In the shot put it was Labrada who posted the better throw of 10.03m for eleventh beating out Deep in 15th (9.67m).
Abby Everett joined the duo for the discus and finished second with a toss of 39.37m. Labrada joined her inside the Top-10 by taking eighth (33.69m), while Deep landed in 23rd (27.74m). Deep then went at the javelin solo grabbing 13th with a mark of 23.84m.
McMaken-Marsh finished 14th in the pole vault after clearing 2.45m, while at the high jump Mooradian dropped in at 17th (1.40m). In the jump pit, S. Penuela finished off the Top-3 for the long jump with a 5.67m, followed by M. Penuela (9th – 5.16m), Kovatsis (25th – 4.50m) and Vitu (26th – 4.39m). Â
On the Docket
The Red and White return to action on Saturday, April 27th when they head back to Shippensburg University for the Paul Kaiser Classic beginning at 9am.
