Devils Push Up Into Second With One Day Left at CC Championships

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Dickinson women's track & field team claimed multiple medals and earned numerous qualifying spots for Sunday's finals to move up into second-place through two days of the Centennial Conference Championship meet at Muhlenberg College.

Sprints
A huge group of Devils went to the track for the 100m with the duo of Sara Penuela and her sister Mariana Penuela earned slots in tomorrow's final by slotting in second (12.50) and fourth (12.59) in the prelim. Two other DC athletes were within the Top-20 as Maddie Kyle claimed 13th (13.43) and 20th (13.75). Naomi Alperin (22nd – 13.81) and Catarina Acosta (26th – 14.14) also did battle for the Red and White. When hurdles were added to the mix at that distance, two more Devils picked up spots in Sunday's final when Darya Mikusova posted the top time of 14.80, while Sophia Kovatsis claimed sixth (16.08). The group of Alperin, Sylvie McMaken-Marsh and Leah Biwott took up ninth (16.83), eleventh (17.73) and 13th (18.84).

In the 200m prelim, three more Devils qualified for the final with S. Penuela taking second (25.23), followed by Emerlee Simons (4th – 26.01) and M. Penuela (5th – 26.10). The trio of Evelyn Swayze (12th – 27.52), Kyle (18th – 27.94) and Abbe Kitchin (19th – 27.98) all secured Top-20 marks. Maddie Brown posted a time of 29.12 for 24th.

Simons will be the lone representative for Dickinson in the 400m final as she nabbed second with a time of 57.86. The quartet of Brown (12th – 1:01.69), Kitchin (15th – 1:02.73), Swayze (16th – 1:02.95) and Morgan Mooradian (19th – 1:06.26) also competed in the event. Mikusova continued her strong day by posting a meet record for the 400m hurdles seizing the top slot for Sunday's final with a time of 1:00.94, while Biwott landed in sixth (1:11.58).

Distance
Dickinson earned a pair of podium places during the 3000m steeplechase as Amiyah Priebe grabbed second (10:58.52), followed by Charlotte Kratovil-Lavelle right behind her in third (11:02.33).

Specialty
Kovatsis finished second in the heptathlon with 3829 points helped by taking second in both the 200m (27.15) and javelin (27.96m). Biwott ended her run in the event with a third-place finished helped in large part by winning both the long jump (4.97m) and 800m (2:31.34).

Relay
The 4x800m unit on Marley Kurey, Myra Naqvi, Kratovil-Lavelle and Priebe took up fourth with a time of 9:28.37.

Field
Abby Everett collected a silver medal for the discus throw with a distance of 39.98m, while Damien Labrada and Jenna Deep finished ninth (33.26m) and 17th (29.31m) respectively.

At the jump pit, Mooradian rounded the Top-10 for the high jump by clearing 1.42m. S. Penuela then grabbed a silver in the long jump by laying down a mark of 5.62m. M. Penuela dropped in at sixth (5.27m), followed by Annie Leder (9th – 5.05m) and Kayleigh Vitu (21st – 4.01m).

Team Scores
With nine events scored Johns Hopkins continues to lead the pack with 92.5 points, followed by Dickinson (70), Ursinus (40), Swarthmore (39), Gettysburg (33), Muhlenberg (21), Haverford and McDaniel (20), Franklin & Marshall (8) and Bryn Mawr (7.5).

On the Docket
The Red and White end their time at the Centennial Championships tomorrow when they return to Scotty Wood Stadium for the third and final day.
