Early Hole Too Much for Devils to Dig Out From Against Blue Jays

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson men's basketball team hung tough through the early part of the first-half on Wednesday night, but ultimately were unable to work out of a 17-point halftime deficit as the visiting Johns Hopkins Blue Jays collected a 63-38 Centennial Conference win inside the Kline Center.

Template - 1st Half
  • Dickinson held the lead through the opening five minutes at 8-3 thanks to a pair of Cole Cosby triples and a strong finish at the rim by Joey Dopirak.
  • A three-ball from John Windley trimmed the gap to 8-6, but layups for Luis Ruiz and Dopirak kept DC in front 12-8 just over two minutes later.
  • A minute later Tanti Felli picked up two in the paint which started a 20-3 outburst for the Jays as they grabbed a 28-15 lead with the only Dickinson points coming from David Petrusev and Dopirak.
  • Two shots at the charity line by Cosby stalled the charge for just a moment as Wyatt Eglinton Manner and Windley netted six straight over the final 97-seconds to lead 34-17 with 20 minutes gone.
Template - 2nd Half
  • Eight of the first dozen points of the frame went to the guests making it 42-21 inside of three minutes off the clock.
  • Brandon Wiercinski delivered from outside the arc and Petrusev tried to keep DC in the game at 42-26.
  • Hopkins would extend the gap to 52-26 with a 10-0 spurt over the next 2:29 thanks in large part to triples by Charlie Jackson and Luke Thorburn.
  • Two shots from deep for Matt Mahoney along with a pair of layups from Juan Ruiz trimmed the deficit to 56-36 with 6:51 remaining.
  • From there Dickinson could not get any closer as the Jays closed the game scoring seven of the final nine points to claim the 63-38 win.
