COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Dickinson men's basketball team put forth a valiant effort on Saturday afternoon as senior forward
David Petrusev dropped 23, while first-years
Andrew Cerullo and
Joey Dopirak each netted 11. However, it was not enough for the Red Devils as the host Ursinus College picked up a 79-72 Centennial Conference win inside of Helfferich Gymnasium.
- The two sides spent the opening five minutes trading the first ten points as David Petrusev collected everything for DC, while Mohamed Toure nabbed all five for the hosts.
- Trevor Wall then embarked on a personal 8-2 romp as a Joey Dopirak layup was the lone tally for the guests as UC led 13-7 just two minutes later.
- After Cole Cosby and Wall traded triples, the trio of Matt Mahoney, Dopirak and Petrusev battled back to make it 18-18 with 9:07 left.
- The teams continued to trade blows exchanging 5-0 runs over the ensuing five minutes to leave things locked up at 28-28.
- Neither squad could build up much separation the remainder of the period as Ryan Leskauskas, Cosby, Dopirak and Petrusev helped DC to keep it tied at 38-38. However, Wall would stick a three from the top of the key with no time left to take a 41-38 advantage into the break.Â
- The Bears came out strong racking up the first six points, before a trey by Mahoney and strong finish at the rim for Petrusev trimmed the gap to 48-43 at the 2:57 mark.
- Dickinson continued to battle as points from Andrew Cerullo, Brandon Wiercinski and Petrusev left DC trailing 55-50 with 12:21 to play.
- An "old-fashioned" three-point play from Juan Ruiz along with jumpers for Cerullo and Petrusev finally got the Devils level at 58-58 inside of ten minutes left.
- Five of the next seven went to UC, before the trio of Cerullo, Cosby and Dopirak brought the Red and White to the front at 67-66 with 5:15 left.
- Unfortunately, for the visitors the Bears went on a 10-2 charge ending with three foul shots by Luke Nieman to jump ahead 76-69 at 18:56 mark.
- Three points from Petrusev would account for the remainder of the DC scoring as the hosts were able to do just enough to hang on for the 79-72 win.
